New opportunities for Year 5’s as they are Learning how to create program technology!

This year we have introduced a scratch coding club to some of Year 5 students at lunchtime. Scratch is a visual programming language that opens up the opportunity for the students to create their own interactive stories, games and animations.

Every Thursday lunchtime the students are introduced to a new project. Once they have developed the basic project, the students then creatively add their own ideas and make decisions on which tools to use to enhance the projects. As students design Scratch projects, they learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. More importantly, they develop the ability to carry out ideas from start to finish - envisioning possibilities, solving problems they encounter, presenting their creations and revising based on feedback.

This is a little step forwards to set them up for success in our increasingly digital world, allowing the students to imagine and create technology so that they can be an active part of the digital era.

Thanks to everyone across the Primary and Middle Schools who got involved with this fundraiser. There was a significant amount raised that will go towards projects in both schools. After prize and admin fees deducted, we have raised over $22,000 across both schools. Primary = approx. $15,000 towards the slide project, and Middle = approx. $8000 towards one of their projects.

Prizes have been ordered and should arrive at school in a couple of weeks. Please watch your inbox for details on how these will be distributed when they arrive.

Congratulations to 5AHI, 7CVA and 7MLE for being the top three classes, and to Christine McIlrath (7BDU), Josh Cheng (5AHI) and Marco Janse van Rensburg (8JPS) for being our top three fundraisers. Well done to all students who put in a great effort to raise money.
