Year 9 Newsletter
Week 3, Term 2
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,
What a great week we've had! We're so thankful that the weather held out for Cross Country. It was a delight to see so many of the Year 9s running alongside and cheering the younger runners on and then running their own race later on in the day. We are so proud of the many Year 9 students who showed grit during their race. Congratulations to Zoe Wilson and Ben Pedersen for winning the Year 9 race.
Year 9 students celebrated Culture Day on Wednesday. Chloe MacKenzie (9RGO) wrote the following about the day: "There was a wide range of Māori based activities that was suitable for nearly everyone. Every activity not only was fun, but it had a meaning behind it. For example, traditionally the Rākau sticks were used to increase alertness and dexterity among boys and men. We played various games, such as Ki o Rahi, Poi Raku and Kilikiti, we made Poi, did a flax weaving activity and worked on our Pepeha. Overall Cultural day was a great, and I hope to see more in the future."
We are looking forward to Mathex/Biblex on Thursday, 18 May. This is always a fun-filled evening with fierce competition between the classes. Parents are welcome to come along to support their children and to volunteer to be part of the parent team!
