KingsWay School —

Week 7, Term 1

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau

The Year One's are loving all the hands-on experiences of learning that we are able to provide them. Studies have shown that the more ways of experiencing the same learning, the more neural pathways are formed, and the better! So what better way is there to reinforce the features of 2-D shapes than to create them ourselves, and what better way to create them, than as a tasty treat, formed from marshmallows and toothpicks?

Other fun activities have been: making rockets, some 'egg'cellent 'egg'speriments, creating a quilt, making scaley green alligators and penguins, and floating on ‘ice’.

These activities really solidify the phonetic awareness that we’re focusing on each week. Plus they are engaging and achievable by all. We encourage you to ask your children about the craft activities that make it home and to turn these into convenient conversation starters so that the learning can continue and take on new meaning.
