The girls had 24 teams in their competition and the boys had 25 teams. Volleyball is growing at KingsWay and we have great talent coming through.
Congratulations to:
Our Schools Mountain biking team.
The Auckland Schools Cross Country Mountain Biking competition 2022 finale was last weekend.
The build-up to the much-anticipated season finale of the Auckland schools XC mountain bike series at Riverhead Forest was full of incident. Riverhead, a mountain biking mecca in summer, is a no-go zone in the soggy season for all but the keenest and craziest.
But race day dawned fine and clear and the excitement was palpable. Not only did KWS have seven racers still in the hunt for the individual categories but this round brought with it the annual team relays. KWS had never before been in a position to field a relay team, but this year we were all in, fielding three teams.
To the delight of all David Howie completed a season clean sweep, becoming U17 Boys champion. It was no less thrilling for being warmly anticipated. But no-one anticipated what followed. Our Senior Co-Ed team of David Howie, Sienna Corbett and Tristan Corbett made a late switch to the hotly contested Senior Boys (U20) category when Franki Thompson answered the call. Confounding the pundits, they beat the likes of Auckland Grammar off the podium to take third. Amazing scenes. Our other teams including Dan Harrison, Sam Anderson, Noah Raikes, Ollie Raikes and Dylan Steven left us hoarse with their heroics. What a day.
We are not one of the big schools but KWS is standing tall and turning heads, and we couldn’t be more excited for next year.
Come and join us!
Mountain biking is just plain fun, and the sport is run by good very well motivated people - it has a great family vibe.
Huge congratulations to all the team members who have come on board in this break-through year, and not only the terrific students but their parents as well. What a great group.
2023 beckons….!
Congratulations to:
Our Y5 & Y6 Cross Country Team. Fourteen schools from the Hibiscus Coast met out at Shakespear Regional Park. KingsWay did extremely well and placed second overall. Our top runners on the day were Hayley Summerville who placed second in the Year 6 Girls category, Parnell Theron who placed 5th in the Year 5 Boys category and Ruby Owen who placed 8th in the Year 5 Girls category. All runners did very well and contributed to our overall placing. Well done to all who took part

Meet our Sport Chaplains
Thornton McDade
Sports Chaplains are volunteers in sports communities providing free, accessible pastoral care, support and mentoring to athletes, staff officials and their Whānau on site and at the point of need. Sports Chaplains in school provide support not only for players but for coaches. They help, pray for and pray with players. Sometimes they even provide home baking at trainings! See below what one of our Sport Chaplains has to say.
1) Why did you decide to train as a Sports Chaplain?
Sports Chaplaincy affords
me the opportunity to combine my passion for sport with my faith in Jesus,
which seems to be an amazing melting pot in which I can serve sports teams and
communities.
2) People may not see any value in having a Sports
Chaplain in a Christian School. Why do you think we need Chaplains within
our teams?
Sport is designed to be a
fun and enjoyable activity at school level. But everyone that has played knows
that no athlete, at any level, is exempt from physical, emotional, and
well-being challenges during a season or career. Sports chaplains can provide fundamental
support and encouragement for individuals, teams, and even communities.
Students that play sport at school will benefit from having a confidant and
support structure through the ups and downs of the season.
3) What have you got out of doing the Chaplaincy course?
I’ve learnt a lot about
myself – the course has helped me to articulate a lot of concepts which I have
always known and felt through being part of sports teams and organisations but
struggled to train and develop.
Are you interested in becoming a Sports Chaplain? We would love to support parents and especially our grandparents to become Sports Chaplains for our sports teams.
Further details can be found at Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand or e-mail our local coordinator Jacolize Becker.

Spotlighting our Coaches
Without our Coach and Manager volunteers we wouldn't be able to play sport at school level. We want to acknowledge all our Coaches/Managers and say THANK YOU for all you do.
Today we want to spotlight student Coach Daniel McCabe.
Dan is a fantastic young man who loves his Basketball and loves to serve. He has coached basketball at both the Junior and Senior Campus this year.
Dan is Deputy Head Boy for 2023 and no doubt has learnt a lot about leading from his time on the basketball court as well as on the side line as a student coach. Thank you Dan.
Using Sport as a Vehicle to Teach Life Lessons

Physical and motor skills: The use and growth of muscles. Development of gross and fine motor skills.
Cognitive skills: Ability to learn, think, and solve problems
