Tomorrow is the Middle School Whanau Day
Students are to wear Whanau colours OR PE gear (not general mufti). Plenty of extra points will be awarded to those who wear their colours with pride and model “He waka eke noa”, we are all in this together!
The TUG OF WAR event starts at 12.30pm on the field – which Whanau will get the bragging rights of being the strongest for 2019?
Sir Peter Blake's Virtual Reality
Recently the Year 7-9 students had a visit from Peter Blake’s Virtual Reality Environmental Roadshow. Each class had an hour-long session with a facilitator using virtual reality headsets which aimed to inspire students to care for our oceans and environment. Students had a number of underwater virtual reality experiences through 360˚ videos in a VR headset, that compared and contrasted pristine marine environments and degraded ones around New Zealand and the Pacific. Students learnt about what causes these differences and found out what actions can be taken to protect the marine environment.
Year 9 Peer Support
The Year 9 Peer Support team have been involved in a mentoring programme with the Year 6 students fortnightly this year and last week the Year 9 Peer Support and Missions leadership teams combined to run an end of year event. A ‘trivia’ afternoon was held with questions on the topics of sport, maths, general knowledge, movies, history, animals and Bible that were designed by the Year 9s. The afternoon was enjoyed equally by both year groups and the hope is that the connections made will continue as the Year 6s move to the Senior Campus next year.
Year 9 Camp
Year 9 camp is fast approaching and the Year 9 students are engaging in fitness activities in preparation for their walk up Mt Tongariro. From the 25-29 November the Year 9 students will be in Taupo to celebrate their time in Middle School. The theme of camp is ‘overcoming’, and students will be faced with some challenging activities as well as enjoying a graduation dinner and an ‘Oscars’ evening with awards for short films they made this year.
