Industrial Action – PPTA & NZEI Teachers’ Strikes
Thank you for your patience regarding teacher union industrial action. NZEI union members are currently assessing their offer and will vote on next steps during the coming week. As previously communicated, PPTA have recommenced industrial action and two Rostering Home Actions are planned. As with other action of this nature, we remain open if we can do so safely, with sufficient staff onsite to teach.
Tuesday, 6 June: Year 10 Rostering Home Action
- We cannot remain open for instruction for Year 10 on Tuesday, 6 June
- Year 10 students are not expected at school on this day and are encouraged to continue with their learning at home. The library is open to receive a limited number of students who cannot secure alternative care options for the day of the strike. Should a student attend school, their attendance will be recorded, and they are expected to wear school uniform and remain on school grounds for the entire day. Normal school behaviour expectations apply.
- KingsWay School remains open for all other year levels
Thursday, 8 June: Year 9 Rostering Home Action
- We can remain open for instruction for Year 9 on Thursday 8 June
- KingsWay School remains open for all year levels
The Rostering Home Action outlined above concludes the scheduled action shared by the PPTA on 1 May 2023. Should any further action be announced by either NZEI or PPTA we will continue to keep you updated each week.
Kind Regards,
Paul Claydon

Matariki Breakfast
KingsWay are holding a Matariki Breakfast on Tuesday 27 June at 7.00am to mark this significant moment in the Te Ao Māori calendar.
In keeping with the spirit thankfulness infused with Matariki, we thank God for His provision and are running a ‘harvest’ themed breakfast of soup, bread, yoghurt and fruit. Registrations are now open. The venue can accommodate about 150-200 people so please register your interest HERE so we can plan accordingly.
Can’t attend, but want to be involved?
We are seeking ingredient donations for the breakfast so please consider how you might be able to contribute. Keep an eye out for more information in our Friday newsletters about what ingredients are needed and when these can be donated.
Assessment Assistants
KingsWay School is seeking volunteers to support our Senior students during their internal and external assessments. Support involves reading a NCEA activity brief and/or writing for the student. These assessments occur during school time and may be for a 45-minute period or a 85-minute double period, notice of these times will be given. We are looking for positive, patient and flexible people to join our casual team of Assessment Assistants. You DO NOT have to be good at a particular subject, but your handwriting should be legible, and you must have English language fluency in speaking, reading and writing. Training is provided. Please be advised that potential Assessment Assistants will be required to complete a police vetting consent form.
If you have some spare time and would like to make a big difference to our students’ lives, please email our coordinator, michelle.hockly@kingsway.school.nz to express your interest.
