Senior School Notices

KingsWay School —

Please read the following news and notices for the Senior School.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2019 school year. As we welcome back returning students, and receive new students into the school, we are also excited to have a new cohort of Year 10’s join us in the Senior School. I do hope that all students can quickly and easily settle in and focus on achieving all they plan across all the various areas they’ll be involved in here at KingsWay. As the new Head of Senior School, I too am in the process of settling in and it’s been a pleasure to meet a number of you already.

Year 13 Camp

While we are still gearing up in terms of academic classes, Friday last week and Monday this week we had the Year 13 Camp, Year 10 Orientation Day and Year 13 On Purpose Day. The theme for the Year 13 Camp was ‘Courageous’. The camp was a great success and a fantastic opportunity for our most senior students to bond and consider how they can best set an example for and lead their fellow students throughout 2019. Some photographs have been attached below.

Year 9/13 On Purpose Day

This Monday it was encouraging to see students start the year with fun activities at the Year 9/13 On Purpose Day. It was wonderful to see Year 13’s getting involved and helping lead the Year 9 activities.
Thank you to MiRae Han for taking photographs on the day. CLICK HERE for the KingsWay School Facebook page where some photographs were uploaded.

Option Subjects

Please note that all Option Subjects should be finalised by the end of TODAY (Friday, 8 February).

Kind regards,

Daniel Bennett
Head of Senior School

Additional Senior School Notices:

Contact Details For ALL Families

This week Form Teachers handed out contact sheets for students to take home. Students needs to get these details checked by a parent/caregiver.

IMPORTANT: Students are not supposed to correct their own details, they need to take it home and a parent/caregiver needs to check and update the details as required, sign and return to school. Even if all the details are correct parents must sign the sheet to confirm their details and return it to school. Alternatively, scan and email the completed form to notices@kingsway.school.nz

It is vital that we have up-to-date contact details on our database for all our students. Please ensure that if you change your details, you advise of us of the details as soon as possible.

Please note that every student is receiving a form, not only one sibling per family. Please return all forms.

You can also update your details online via the Kamar parent portal. There is an option to Change Details and this generates a message to our Database Manager to action changes.

Reporting an Absence:

KingsWay School has a responsibility every day to account for all students who are enrolled. We ask for students and parents to support us in achieving this, preferably in advance of attendance checks. Please see the attachment for important information on reporting a student's absence for sickness / students leaving early or arriving to school late and reporting a student's absence that is not sickness related.

Please open the PDF attached with all details regarding reporting absences at KingsWay School or CLICK HERE for our website link.

Year 13 History

As part of our Year 13 History course we have a field trip each year that allows students to undertake in-depth research into the early contact period 1814-1840 based on primary resources, for our NCEA internal research assessment AS 91434 and AS 91435 worth 10 credits. Student research will focus on New Zealand’s first links to the British Empire, the establishing of Christianity in New Zealand with the birth of the Protestant church in 1814, and the nature of bi-cultural relations between Maori and European visitors 1814-1840.
