A Note from Graeme Budler, Executive Principal
Dear KingsWay Community,
The Ministry of Education responded yesterday with additional credits for students sitting NCEA. I like to view these additional credits as a lifejacket. In other words, nice to have in an emergency but not to use unless there is an emergency. Would you please discuss with your child the need to finish well and practice the habit of perseverance? Please refer your child to their dean or Mrs Perrow if your child requires clarity or wants to discuss their options.
God bless,
Graeme Budler
Executive Principal

NZQA Announcement Yesterday - Learning Recognition Credits
Students will soon be aware of the additional learning recognition credits available to them due to the government announcement yesterday. We will continue to encourage them to stay focused and dedicated to their studies till the end of the year regardless of these changes.
These additional changes are a full reintroduction of the measures that applied for students in Tāmaki Makaurau last year when a similar total amount of time was spent under alert level restrictions.
These changes are:
- Tāmaki Makaurau students will be entitled to one Learning Recognition Credit (LRC) for every four credits they achieve through assessment in the 2021 school year, rather than one LRC for every five.
- Tāmaki Makaurau students will be eligible for up to 16 LRCs at NCEA Level 1, and 12 LRCs at Levels 2 and 3.
- The threshold for Tāmaki Makaurau students to be awarded a Certificate Endorsement will be 44 credits at Merit or Excellence level, rather than the usual 50.
The changes to Course Endorsements and University Entrance will continue to apply. This means:
- Tāmaki Makaurau students will require 12 credits at Achieved, Merit or Excellence level to receive Course Endorsements, rather than 14 credits.
- To be awarded University Entrance, students in Tāmaki Makaurau will need to achieve 12 credits, rather than 14 credits, in each of three University Entrance Approved Subjects, as well as attaining NCEA Level 3 and meeting the usual literacy and numeracy requirements.
Derived Grades Examinations
We are currently planning on running a week of Derived Grades Examinations in Term 4, from Tuesday 26th October until Tuesday 2nd November. There have been some minor changes to the timetable that was published last week. See HERE for updates.
