Reflections from Tonga: A Journey Beyond Words

KingsWay School —

Students' reflections from their Tonga Mission Trip that happened in the July school holidays:

"During the July holidays, 14 students, Mrs van Rooyen, Mrs Neville and Mr Robertson accompanied our mission partner, Andrew Marriot to Tongatapu. We were welcomed into schools, discipleship groups and churches across the main island. Our days were filled with opportunities to minister, the group sang songs, performed skits, and shared their testimonies and prayed for the sick in the local hospital. A special part of our trip was working closely with Tonga Christian Radio and Willy Florian, the station manager. The radio station became a second home for us. From painting the building to sorting donated T-shirts to bless the local schools, to sharing our testimonies on air, it was an honour to contribute to a ministry with such a far-reaching impact. We went to serve but left feeling deeply challenged and changed. And while words may never do it justice, we thank God for every moment."

Zak Theron, Year 12

“My highlight was praying for a lady who had a tumour. She was so excited to see us, and she felt valued that we had come all the way to her village to pray for her.”

Maya McNair, Year 12

“My highlight was talking to a girl at a Catholic school. She was telling us how the song ‘Goodness of God’ meant a lot to her because it was her mum's favourite song before she died. This really touched me because we were all so over singing that song. It reminded me that we weren't singing the song for our enjoyment, but to bless the people we were singing to.”

Brooke Plummer, Year 12

“I’m so thankful to have witnessed the joy, thankfulness, and love of the people in Tonga. There were many moments where I felt they were teaching us more than we were teaching them. They touched my heart in a special way, and I feel like God was using these beautiful moments at discipleship groups and services with the people in Tonga to encourage me to be more content, thankful and to put Jesus at the centre of everything I do.

Sophia Crosbie, Year 13

“A highlight I had on the trip was when the power went out and we all worshiped together; it was a God moment as I could feel the group bonding a lot and the Holy Spirit moving through the team.”

Conor Dickinson, Year 13
