Marian Bailie —

Week 10, Term 3

Hello Parents and Whānau

Our tamariki have been diving into Scripture this week as we studied the miracle of Jesus feeding thousands of people with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fish. Jesus took something that was impossible with man and made it possible with God. We learned that when we give all we have to God, just like the little boy gave all the food he had to Jesus, God takes what we give Him and provides for all our needs, often in ways we don’t expect.

Another important lesson we learned was that our body gets hungry and we need to feed it food. Likewise, our spirit gets hungry and we need to feed it spiritual food by spending time with our Lord and Saviour (John 6:35). We can feed our spirit by spending time reading God’s Word, worshipping, and praying. This helps us to know God better and walk in His perfect ways.

We also had the privilege to welcome the Silverdale Fire Station today! We brushed up on our Fire Wise knowledge and enjoyed getting up close to a fire truck!  Please be prepared as our tamariki have been encouraged to check where the fire alarms are in their home and to discuss a special meeting place in case of a fire at home.

2022 Year 2-4 Swimming (Tuesday 25th October - Friday 4th November )

Dear Parents and Caregivers

The Year 2-4 students will attend Northern Arena Pools for their annual swimming lessons. These lessons are 30 minutes per class, per day for 9 days.

Children will travel by bus with their class teacher to the Northern Arena Pools for their 30 minute lesson and then be transported back to school to continue their usual programme.

Children will need to bring the following to school each day:

  • A tog bag

  • Swimming togs

  • Swimming towel

  • Swimming cap

  • Goggles

Children will change each day at school or at Northern Arena.

Children need to come to school fully dressed in school uniform and leave school in school uniform.

The Schools Programme at Northern Arena holds a pivotal role of ensuring the safety and providing key life skills to children in the community. Learning to swim is as important as learning to read and write, which is why Northern Arena’s award winning learn to swim school focuses on changing and saving lives in and around water.

The Schools Learn to Swim program teaches children from years 1-9 to be more comfortable and safer in the water.

The program:

  • Caters swimming lessons for all levels and abilities.

  • Teaches students to swim and survive by learning correct stroke technique and swim fitness.
