Community Update, 21 September 2021

KingsWay School —

A Note from Graeme Budler, Executive Principal

Dear KingsWay Community,

As we move into Level 3, staff and students are requesting an update on events such as Year 13 Graduation and camps. The management continues to adopt an approach that includes:

  • Postponing as long as possible before cancelling.
  • Balancing the requirements to catch up with NCEA.
  • Considering the wellbeing of staff and students. We cannot fit everything lost from one term into the last term.

Would you please continue to support us as we juggle these various balls? We may leave some cancellations to the last possible minute, not because we are disorganised but because we do not want to cancel unnecessarily.

Tomorrow a few students and a skeleton staff crew return onsite. We continue to support students via distance learning. I realise that Level 3 can be frustrating, but it is one step closer to freedom the way I see it.

Below is a reminder of important information at Alert Level 3 for your reference.

Summary of Important Information for Alert Level 3

  • The Junior Campus is closed until further notice. We will supervise pre-registered students from Years 1-10 who are children of essential services at the Senior Campus.
  • We will accommodate students in bubbles of 10 students and two staff members. Bubbles won’t have any close contact with other bubbles.
  • A limited amount of Year 13 students completing specialist practical work is onsite during the next two weeks. They are invite-only, and we permit them to enter the gates while maintaining social distancing at all times.
  • KingsWay encourages the wearing of masks for all staff and students (over the age of 12 years) under Alert Level 3.
  • Please drop your children at the Bolam Court, located between the main Senior Campus Reception and old Primary buildings. Would you please follow the one-way circular drive-through? Drop off is strictly between 8:30 am, and 9 am. A staff member will escort your child to their bubble. Please remain in your car during drop-off and pick-ups to ensure a contactless process.
  • A nurse will be onsite daily, but if your child shows any cold or flu symptoms, you will be contacted and must collect them asap. On collection remain in your car in the Visitors car park outside the Senior Campus Main Reception and call the nurse on 09-427 0903.
  • We have postponed all in-person activities until further notice.
  • The Office will be staffed but will not be open for business. However, should you need to contact Reception, please call 09-427 0900 in the first instance.
  • The website will update the community on all Alert Level 3 protocols.
  • Online and home learning continue under Alert Level 3 and is the only form of instruction available.
  • We do not permit sharing of food or drink at Alert Level 3.

God bless,

Graeme Budler
Executive Principal

Wellbeing

Wellbeing Webinar | Wednesday 29th September | 7 pm

We are pleased to be hosting another wellbeing webinar in a couple of weeks. We have two speakers from Laidlaw College who will present how Gen Z and teenagers think and operate within a predominantly online lifestyle. We will cover practical wisdom tips for parents on topics like gaming and social media.

Feel free to share this with anyone in your community. With life now predominantly being online, the more strategies and knowledge we have to help our young people, the better.

Access to the broadcast is available HERE.

Middle School Notices

While we are disappointed to know that we remain at a distance for the remainder of Term 3, please be assured that the teachers are working hard to ensure that your children are learning everything they can this term, without pressure at the same time. Currently, we are ensuring the learning in Term 4 is adjusted in response to the time spent in Distance Learning. If you have any concerns about your child’s learning or wellbeing, please do communicate this directly to the Homeroom teacher so that we can assist you further.
