Year 9 Local Mission Outreach

KingsWay School —

Year 9 students step out of their comfort zone on outreach to Otara, South Auckland.

Last Friday, 12 enthusiastic students traveled to Otara in South Auckland accompanied by Andrew Marriott (Motivate NZ), Mi Rae Han (Head of the Mission Council) and Colin Gray. We arrived at the Samoan AOG Church in the evening and met Tony and some other members of the church. We had dinner with them after some ice breakers and later joined up with the church for a prayer meeting.

On Saturday, after a hearty breakfast, we helped to set up for their Community Outreach. We did this in a reserve near a very busy intersection. Many people turned up and they enjoyed the free food and helped themselves to clothing and bags of groceries. The KingsWay students helped in many ways: face painting, preparing food, playing games with kids and interacting with locals.

After the outreach, we helped pack down and back at the church, we did a debrief with Andrew and the head pastor, Terry, and his wife. We said our farewells and we are looking forward to the next time we spend time with our new friends from Otara in 2020.
