Junior Campus Notices - Week 8, Term 1

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

A Note from Nicky Heyns

2020 has got off to a great start for our Year 0-1 students and teachers in the Totara Studio. The New Entrants have settled quickly and are enjoying their learning. We have had quite a few very exciting events happening.

We went to the Red Beach rock pools in the middle of February to marvel at God’s little creatures that live there.

Grandparents and other family members joined us later in the month. The children so enjoyed sharing their space, learning, songs and games with their guests.

In March, Gym Kids came to treat the children to a taste of gymnastics. They performed various activities on the mats and enjoyed the trampolines and the ‘horse’ very much. Core body strength and muscle control are so very important for supporting all learning experiences.

We are thankful for God’s provision as we look forward to celebrating the good news of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday before school ends for the term.

Term 1 Parent/Teacher Conferences – Years 1-13

Please note that, as already communicated to you by Mr Budler, our face-to-face Parent/Teacher conferences scheduled for 2nd April have been postponed until a later date. This date has not yet been decided upon and will depend on how events around Coronavirus unfold in the coming weeks.

Teachers will, however, still be available to speak to some parents over the phone. Teachers will be flagging students for whom a conversation with parents needs to happen as a priority and if that is your son or daughter you will receive communication about it via an email from the classroom teacher, by Friday 20th March.

The conferences will take place via telephone between 2:30 pm and 6 pm on Thursday 2nd April ONLY for those parents who have been contacted by the teacher.

Parents who do not receive an email from the teacher are to assume that, at this stage, their child is progressing as expected in their learning.

Early Finish:

We will, however, still finish school at the earlier time of at 2 pm on Thursday 2 April. Parents are to ensure all Primary children are picked up by 2.15 pm,OR have permission to walk home OR are booked into the sKids programme OR will be taking the bus home.

Buses:

Bayes buses will run at the earlier time of 2.15 pm which means children travelling home on a Bayes bus will arrive home earlier. Ritchies bus children are to remain in the Junior Campus foyer until 3 pm. At 3 pm Ritchies bus children will be transported from the Junior Campus to Longmore Lane to connect with their school bus for their journey home.

sKids:

sKids will be running a programme from 2pm-6pm for children requiring after school supervision. Please contact skids for more information before 2 April by emailing kingsway@skids.co.nz.

Primary School Assemblies

Please note there will be no whole school Primary assemblies for the rest of this term.

If Children are Unwell

PMP - Perceptual Motor Programme

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Mrs Charlene van Vuuren as our new PMP Presenter.

Although Charlene is full of energy and enthusiasm for her PMP role, the Programme cannot function without the support and hands-on assistance of every parent of children in our New Entrant and Year 1 classes. PMP has been running successfully at KingsWay Primary School for 15 years, so please introduce yourself to Mrs V (as the children call her) and let your child’s teacher know if you are available to help.

Mrs Jaydene Smit one of our Year 1 teachers writes:

“Over the last 2 years of teaching I have always thought very highly of and recommend PMP for our young children. How this benefits the children's growth development; that is, the gross motor skills, listening skills, balance in children, remembering and following instructions carefully, etc. New friendships have developed during our PMP Sessions. The Parent-Teacher partnership grows. Children get to move their bodies in different ways, eg. their eye-hand and eye-foot co-ordination is improved and strengthened, keeping the children fit and stimulating concentration. This has helped them in the classroom environment as they are able to focus and follow instructions and can settle themselves easily. The children are learning so much through this great experience and opportunity that I think it is so important for young children to do it when they start school. There is so much learning taking place through what they do.“

PTA - Ladies Night

It is with great regret that the PTA has had to postpone the upcoming ladies night. We don’t take this lightly and are aware that many of the lovely ladies in our community were looking forward to this night. But in light of the current situation, we feel this is the best decision to keep our school community safe.

We are working on rescheduling this event to Term 4. Thank you for all your support.
