Katherine Kruger —

Week 6, Term 1

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,

Across our year 5 and 6 classes, we have been doing a deep dive into the various body systems and how they all interconnect. Our students have not only been exploring the ins and outs of the human body through theoretical and practical investigation, but they have also been invited to consider and marvel at how we, as humans, have been so intricately designed. The Kea class has had many discussions around the fine-tuning and anthropic arguments that both point to an incredible designer - God.

We have recently been looking at the nervous system (the exploration of the brain is no easy feat!) and how remarkable it is that the blob of mush in our heads has the computational power to process millions of bits of information every second. See what Dr. Ben Carson has to say about the brain: Ben Carson Explains the Brain. Wow.

Also, we attempted to recreate neurons using pipe cleaners and a simple electrical circuit.
