COVID-19 Update, 21 August, 2020
A final note from Graeme Budler to end another week in lockdown and a message from Peter Wilding, Board of Trustees Chairperson.
Dear KingsWay Community,
I don't have much to report on today, but I would like to thank and congratulate you for successfully navigating another week in lockdown. The Prime Minister said today that she would make an announcement on Monday regarding any changes to Alert Levels. I will provide an update on Monday following these announcements.
I know that teachers are extremely thankful for all that you, as parents and caregivers, do. Please ensure that you rest this weekend as we all need the capacity for what lies ahead.
If you are an essential worker, please remember to register your children for next week by following this LINK.
I want to end this week with something that I read which I have found useful. The story we tell ourselves about our lives is compelling. Here is a quick mental re-frame on being thankful.
Replace “I have to” with “I get to.”
Eg.
“I have to clean the dishes” with “I get to clean dishes.”
“I have to make dinner” with “I get to make dinner.”
“I have to go shopping” with “I get to go shopping.”
Have a great weekend and, if you haven't already, please take some time to read this term’s encouraging Connect Magazine.
God bless,
Graeme Budler
Executive Principal
Board of Trustees
Dear school community, the Board is enormously grateful for the leadership shown by our Executive Principal, Graeme and his team heading the operational challenge of steering our school through this period, caring for our students educational needs while being mindful of the stresses and concerns these changing times place on them and their families. We also extend our thanks to all our teachers, support staff and parents for being so flexible in accommodating various new teaching platforms, changes to school processes and the numerous unique needs of different students.
You may be aware the Government made a decision to provide schools with the discretion to be able to bring some Year 12 and 13 students onsite under Alert Level 3. As this was an operational and educational based consideration, the decision was delegated to our Executive Principal and his leadership team who decided this was not an appropriate action for our school to take at this time. As Chairperson of the Board I supported this decision as we have a strong online programme and good support in place for our students. If you have any concerns about your child’s learning and wellbeing, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher or head of school.
In a time where there has been so much sudden change and uncertainty, let’s celebrate and be thankful that our confidence and faith is anchored on an unchanging, unshakeable truth. Our present and our futures are held securely by our God El Roi, the God who sees us, who has gone before us and who loves us unceasingly.
May his peace and joy rest on you and your families during this time.
Peter Wilding
