How has playing sport at KingsWay influenced your life?

The above video is made by the 2018 Sports Council for the North Harbour Value of School Sport competition.

The prerequisite to enter this competition is to present a video (either video footage or series of photos) demonstrating the value of sport.

The council chose to ask KingsWay School Alumni, How playing sport at KingsWay influenced them to continue to play sport when they left school'. This video, along with other North Harbour school videos, will be posted on the Harbour School Sport Facebook page on Friday, 8th June.

KingsWay School has to get as many ‘likes’ as possible in order to win the prize of a Sports Distributors equipment voucher worth $300.00! The winner will be announced Friday, 22 June.

Please remember, after the 8 June, to go onto https://www.facebook.com/harboursport/ and like our video.

Sport at KingsWay School facilitates development of more than just sporting skills, it incorporates teamwork, respect, social interaction and all around fun. School can be a challenge, understanding and managing the dynamics between peers and to know where you fit in. Sport continues to be an avenue for anyone who is willing to sign up, turn up, and work on doing all they can to contribute to their team's efforts. We are given an amazing opportunity to try several sports over our time at KingsWay School, together with quality coaching and resources that you don’t get access to elsewhere.

The long-term gain of playing sport at KingsWay School continues well into the years beyond graduating from Senior School. As mentioned, teamwork, respect and social interaction are important skills to develop and transfer in to the workplace. Teamwork, we all know, is a vital skill to learn in any situation, even in the family home! This is a key value of all KingsWay sport teams and therefore fosters a team approach mindset. Respect, for leadership (coaches and managers, umpires and anyone else involved), for peers (team mates in any capacity) and for the rules of the game is of paramount importance and is encouraged each and every training and game KingsWay School students' play. This emphasis on respect adds to what is taught and learnt in the classroom and other extra curricular activities. Lastly, the constant opportunity to practice (and re-practice!) social interaction skills is so beneficial for developing kids and teenagers. These three values and more, are why playing sport, of any code, in a KingsWay School environment, has such a lasting impact on life skills.

School Leaver, 2015

Playing sport has always been a passion of mine. From Year 1 until I graduated from Senior School I enjoyed playing netball. I love the feeling of community playing netball brings, especially during my time at KingsWay School. I met so many incredible girls who were friends both on and off the court. As my time of school sport came to an end I knew there was no way I was ready to give up the sport I was so passionate about. After leaving school I continued playing netball at club level and still do so today. Playing netball at KingsWay School encouraged my passion for the game and I knew I wanted to keep playing after leaving school. I am so thankful that I have kept it up as I love being able to go out on a Saturday and continue to play the sport I love.
