KingsWay School — Feb 15, 2021

Dear KingsWay Community,

I realise that many of us are feeling frustrated that we are here again. However, can I challenge everyone to adopt a much more philosophical and Biblical perspective on the matter?

In Philippians 4:6-7, we read,

“6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Lockdown is an excellent opportunity to model to our children how we respond in challenging circumstances. I want to remind parents of our adage for Lockdown, 'Near enough is good enough'. Despite adopting this approach in 2020, KingsWay School students have recorded the best NCEA data ever. Let us keep calm and carry on.

Please refer to the following school-specific update to keep well-informed of latest developments.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school via email if you have any concerns, suggestions, or queries.

Regards,

Graeme Budler
Executive Principal

Uncollected Home Learning Packs can be picked up from Reception on the Senior Campus.

These Home Learning Packs are designed to provide learning for 4 days. Should Lockdown be extended, further learning will be provided.

Teachers will communicate with their classes re the time of their online class catch-ups

Parents are welcome to email their child’s teacher throughout the school day if they have questions about home learning or require clarity on any aspect of it. Teachers will be available daily during school hours, until 3:30 pm.

Middle School

Our Middle School Distance Learning programme covers four days this week, in the event of an extension of Alert Level 3. All details of the programme will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom. Students need to look at this before 9am on Tuesday morning. Form classes will meet via Zoom each morning and afternoon. This only requires students to click the links. These sessions will be used for Devotions and to explain learning for Biblical Studies, Mathematics, English and Social Studies. All details are provided by Form teachers.

Students have had online learning etiquette explained, however, please read about this by clicking the link in the email sent by Lisa Lambert today. Students enter Zoom with their camera on and with their actual name.

Email questions or concerns regarding technical issues or learning to your child’s Form teacher as they are available during the school day.

Online Lessons

All teachers will be writing a message on Teams for classes to say what the general plan is for this week.

Online classes will take place during your child’s timetabled lesson, on Tuesday and Wednesday. These will be between 10 – 20 minutes of online teacher-directed tasks. Further work will be set for students to work on independently.

There will not be online classes for Core PE at Years 10 or 11, however, 10 PE Studies and NCEA PE will continue online.

Please note that we do ask that students during these online lessons have their camera switched on when requested by the teacher. Lessons are recorded so we do expect students to behave as they would during physical lessons in the classroom.

Form Class

All Form classes will be meeting on Tuesday morning 8.45 am for a short devotion and check-in with students.
