Junior Campus Notices - Week 6, Term 3, 2019

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

A Note from Jordan Barley

Kia Ora,

What awesome weather we were greeted with on Tuesday at Shakespear Regional Park for our annual Year 3-9 School Cross Country. It is always hard to postpone an event, but God had a plan for a stunning day on our Saver Day!

Congratulations to all of our students for your efforts. Well done for your participation and for choosing to keep going when it got tough. Super work encouraging one-another other and cheering your houses on. What a huge effort you all put in. We are so proud of you.

A big thank you especially to our volunteers who marshalled and helped to make this day possible. It was an incredible day of community celebration and without parent support it would not have been possible. Congratulations to all of you who participated and to our top three place getters in Primary.

All the best to our Year 5 and 6 Interschool Cross Country team. The top 7 runners from each cohort got to do it all again Today, Ka Pai!

Mufti Day - TOMORROW

Tomorrow (Friday, 30 August) will be a Mufti Day where students are encouraged to dress to the theme of 'Influencers'. Please CLICK HERE for further details.

Darby House Bake Sale - TOMORROW

On Friday, 30 August, we have our third bake sale, which will be run by Darby to raise funds for Mission. All children in Darby House are asked to bring an item of Spanish baking to sell at lunchtime. There only needs to be one baked item per family, so if you have three or more children in Darby then you do not need to bake three lots of food!

Students need only to bring loose change as items will cost 50c - $2.00, max.

Please deliver all Spanish baked items to the staff room first thing in the morning and cut any cakes, ready for selling at 50c - $2.00 per slice.

Thanking you so much for your support and encouragement for Missions.

Missions Leader, Junior Campus

Winter School Uniform

Parents are reminded that KingsWay School has a set uniform for students to wear in winter.

Please note that navy blue pants, long sleeved shirts/merinos, black or white stockings/tights, plain navy socks or leggings are not part of our school uniform and may not be worn to school.

Warm polar fleece sweatshirts, jumpers and school jackets are available through the school uniform shop. Orders can be sent to the Junior Campus and delivered straight to your child, if necessary.

School shoes: please note that sneakers are NOT part of the school uniform. Students are to wear all black buckle, lace or velcro school shoes (unless otherwise directed under the care of podiatrist). See below.

Hair ties, jojo bows, hair bands and ribbons worn in the hair must please be navy, white, or black.

Please CLICK HERE for all our uniform requirements as listed on our school website.

Activity Costs

A big reminder about outstanding Activity Costs please!

The activities the children take part in are an important aspect of their education and are carefully chosen to make their learning experiences interesting and fun. Please appreciate that there are costs involved in ensuring these activities are successfully run.

Please make payment for the outstanding amounts as soon as possible, either by cheque (Kingsway School), cash, Eftpos at the Junior School office or by paying directly into the Junior School account: 12 3084 0192348 53 (clearly stating ‘student’s name’ and ‘Activity Cost’).

Important reminders to Parents and Caregivers:

  • Parents and Caregivers please sign in and out when on school grounds during school hours.
  • Delivering a message to your child during school hours: The Office staff are not permitted to leave the office unattended. If you do have an urgent message for your child, please endeavour to phone the school office before 1pm so the message can be passed on to their teacher at lunch time. We cannot guarantee messages getting to your child after 1pm.
  • Ensure your child is clear on their after-school arrangements: Please ensure your child knows what form of transportation or what arrangement has been made for them at the end of the school day. If your child has difficulty remembering what the arrangement is, we recommend you put a note in their lunch box to remind them.

For safety purposes, please note the following:

Car Park/Child Safety, Parents using the car park and surrounds are reminded to please drive slowly and not speed in or out of the car park areas. Please hold child’s hand to ensure their safety when arriving and leaving the school grounds. When possible reverse into car parks to ensure greater visibility of pedestrians when exiting the car park at peak times.

Front car park, Please note that the drop off zone in the front car park is for use in the mornings only and is not a pick up zone after school. The bus that shuttles the primary students after school to their connecting bus in Longmore Lane is under tight time constraints and cannot afford to be delayed by cars exiting the carpark. Children taking the bus home must ride on the shuttle bus from the Junior Campus to Longmore Lane and not walk over to their connecting bus.

Bottom car park, Please use the bottom carpark in the afternoons when picking up your child. Whenever possible reverse into car park space to enhance visibility of children when leaving. Please do not park on broken yellow lines on Bonair Crescent, nor allow your child to cross a road unsupervised. It is essential when picking your child up from the bottom car park you park your car first in a designated car park space before your child enters the car. Please do not double park behind an already parked car.

Walking to school, a reminder to all parents whose children walk to and from school to ensure your children are well briefed on keeping safe. This is especially important when crossing busy roads and waiting for parents to arrive. Advise your child to find a safe place to cross (i.e. at a crossing or an intersection with traffic lights) and to stop, look, listen and not run. Please encourage your children to walk in public places not in secluded side streets.

Thank you for your cooperation as a community,

Nga Mihi,

Jordan Barley
Assistant Head of Primary

Health Centre

The Junior Campus Health Centre is looking for unwanted Primary uniform clothing as stock is getting low. Spare uniform clothing is kept at the Health Centre in the event of accidents where children have wet or muddy clothing. If your child goes home with spare clothing from the Health Centre, please wash and return to the office as soon as possible.

Please Note: There are a lot of uniform items that have not been returned to the office. This is making it very difficult when children are requiring a change of clothes.

Primary Sharing Assemblies Term 3:

All Primary students will attend a Sharing Assembly in the Junior Campus hall fortnightly, on Friday afternoons from 2.25pm - 3pm. Parents are welcome to attend these assemblies.

Dates:

  • Week 6: Friday 30 August

  • Week 10: Friday 27 September
