Important Information for Parents of Primary students relocating to the Senior Campus in Week 5

KingsWay School —

Please take note of the following important information as the students embark on this exciting adventure…

• A walking school bus will leave the Junior Campus at 8:45am every morning to walk primary students over to the Senior Campus. Students needing to be walked over to the Senior Campus must line up in the usual bus line area outside of the Totara Studio by 8:45am, where a teacher will meet them. Students who miss the walking school bus will need to make their own way over to the Senior Campus. (Any parents who are available to assist us with getting the students over to the Senior Campus will be warmly welcomed to join in! Please email your contact details and availability to lea.healy@kingsway.school.nz)

• The walking school bus will operate in rain and shine. Please ensure your child has a suitable raincoat or umbrella in their school bag.

Please note: the purpose of the walking school bus is to support those families who have students on both sites. Parents with children only in the Kauri Studio are encouraged to use the drop off zone in Jelas Rd instead of the walking bus.

• The walking school bus will leave the Senior Campus at 2:55pm every day to walk students to the busses or back over to the Junior Campus, where they can be picked up by the parents, as per usual.

• Students in afternoon sKids will be met at the Old Primary (at the Senior Campus) by sKids personnel, who will walk them over to the Junior Campus.

• Students catching the bus to school can either be dropped off at the Junior Campus (to accompany a younger sibling into the foyer) and then join the walking school bus over to the Senior Campus, or remain on the bus and only disembark when the bus stops at the Senior Campus bus bay.

• Primary students will not be allowed to purchase their lunches directly from the tuckshop at the Senior Campus. Lunches must be ordered online, as per usual, and will be delivered to the students in their classes. It is very important that the TEACHER’S INITIALS are indicated on the order form.

• On Monday morning, 12 November, there will be an assembly at 8:55am in the Old Primary, on the Senior Campus, which parents are welcome to attend. Mrs Gibson will be talking to the students about play areas, out of bounds areas, the tuckshop, and other general information the students need to know.

• The Senior Campus drop off/pick up zone is located at the end/bottom of Jelas Rd. Please note that parking in the drop off zone is not allowed. Be aware that Jelas Rd can become congested at the end of a school day due to the number of students and parents arriving and leaving. Please be patient with other road users.

• There is NO PARKING inside the Senior Campus. Parents need to park on Jelas Rd and walk onto the campus if they are not wanting to ‘Kiss and Drop’. (Please note the parking time limitations signposted on Jelas Rd to avoid being fined.)

• Primary Students on the Senior Campus will continue with their usual school and classroom routines. They will be instructed to remain within the old primary buildings or hard courts before school in order to hear the hand bell being rung to call them in for the start of the day. Primary students finish school 10 mins before the older students (3:05pm) and will either walk immediately to the pick up zone on Jelas Rd or be walked over to the busses by Junior Campus teachers.

• Prize Giving Ceremonies will take place on the Junior Campus, as per usual. Students will walk over for rehearsals and for the actual events.

• Primary students are NOT allowed to play on the Middle School playground during morning tea and lunchtimes. They have to be closely supervised when using that playground and teachers will plan times for them to access it during the week. Please discuss this with your child.

• Anita Wicks, the school nurse on the Senior Campus is aware of the medical needs of students in the Kauri studio and will have all of the students’ medication ready and on hand in her Health Centre.

• ESOL and specialised learning support (external providers) will continue as per usual on the Senior Campus.

• Parents needing to sign their children in late or out early, will find the vistab in the Student Reception on the Senior Campus. Please note there are only 4 visitor carparks on the Senior Campus.

• To report student absenteeism, please follow the usual procedure. It is essential you let the school know as soon as possible by either leaving a message on the absentee line (09) 427 0900, using the KingsWay School phone app or sending an email to absences@kingsway.school.nz. It is also important that you explain the reason for absence as this is required by the Ministry of Education.

Above is a map of the Old Primary (on the Senior Campus), which indicates where the Kauri Studio classes have been re-allocated for the rest of Term 4:
