SPORTS DEPARTMENT

Sports Department —

13th March - 17th March 2023, Week 7, Term 1

Term 2 & 3 Sports Teams.

Once registrations close and trials are completed, MS and Senior teams will be named on the school web site under Team Lists on a Friday afternoon.

Please note a lot of time and effort goes into selecting teams. We do our best to get teams right. Once the teams are made up, if a child pulls out it can leave a team short, cause players to be swapped about in teams and a lot of work administratively both at school and at association level. It can even mean a team has not got enough players to compete in the competition for the season.

Therefore fees will not be reimbursed to students who don’t make their choice of team in their chosen code or who no longer want to play and who then choose to withdraw.

Summer Soccer Article

Joining an all-girls summer soccer team is one of the best things that could have happened to me. Heading down to Stanmore Bay every Monday afternoon and playing a fun, casual football game, while meeting new people and hanging out with friends. It allows me to be competitive and stretch myself while laughing about my mistakes. One of the best things about it is seeing the girls improve every single game and watching as their confidence grows in themselves and their skills. I would recommend getting involved in a sport of your own and having fun with other people.

Mountain Biking Team

The Game’s afoot! – the 2023 Schools Mountain biking campaign begins!

Once more unto the breach, dear friends...
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood…
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,|
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit…

Shakespeare, Henry V

The company waging Kingsway’s campaign for the 2023 Auckland Schools cross country mountain biking competition is its strongest ever. Round 1, held at Riverhead Forest, resembled a battle-ground, as the team contended with foe, misfortune, and affliction, triumphing over all.

Our team were a stirring sight, kitted in a striking custom racing strip, ablaze with Kingsway colours - all made possible by a fantastic sponsor (thank you Markplan Engineers!). There is absolutely no doubt the team look the business this season, a force to be reckoned with.

But no one was going to give it to them, and there was more than their rivals to contend with. The team was hit by illness, one member rising from her sickbed to the contest, and another struck with a gastro bug, losing his lunch mid race. Talk about a gutsy effort. And there was no rest to be had on the day, as the fierce skirmishes of a morning’s racing gave way to an afternoon of intense action in the annual relays champs.

By the day’s end every team member had a top 10 finish.

Sienna Corbett, Tristan Corbett, and David Howie - 2023 Under-20 Co-Ed relay Champions!

Dylan Steven, Ollie Raikes, and Ethan Gloy - 5th in the under-16 Boys relay category.
Sam Anderson, Noah Raikes and Josiah Beattie - 4th in the U-20 boys relay category.
Ethan Gloy - 10th in the U-15 Boys on debut
Sienna Corbett - 3rd U-16 girls
 Sam Anderson - 6th U-17 boys

The Under-20 boys category is new territory for the team, and what result - David Howie 1st, Tristan Corbett 4th, Dan Harrison 6th, Noah Raikes 9th

None of this would have been possible without top-notch ground support. The support crew of the 2023 company was fit for action behind the front lines as never before, with marquee, technical support, barbecue, and runners ready to leap to action and tip the balance at critical moments. Hats off to a terrific group of parents and supporters 👏👏👏

The 2023 contest has begun in earnest. The team has tasted success and is hungry for more.

“I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,

Straining upon the start. The game's afoot..!” Henry V

Next stop Hunua for round 2!

We apologise but the TIC or Sports Dept are unable to help with issues on the mykindo registration page.

If you are interested in paying sport fees by AP please sign up for your sport under the AP registration. Life Lessons through Sport

While we often talk about success in youth sport through the lens of competition, there are also other ways that success in youth sport is defined.
