Applications for the 2020 KingsWay Expedition to Borneo are now OPEN!

KingsWay School —

In partnership with the Wallacea Trust, KingsWay Senior students have the incredible opportunity to be involved in international scientific research in Borneo.

In July 2020, a group of students will join International research teams in the Lesan Forest Camp and Derawan Island in Borneo. Students will be educated in how to collect important data which helps to ascertain the biodiversity of different habitats. The Trust aims to address the decline of environmental biodiversity found across the world’s poorest countries. They do this in partnership with local communities – developing sustainable economic incentives, small business ventures and providing support.

Student experience and involvement:

  • Quantifying the carrying capacity of the reserve for Orangutans
  • Opportunity to live and work in a primary rainforest in Borneo
  • Identifying the primate and predator (cat species, sun bears, civets) populations in the reserve
  • Diving at a site with regular turtle, manta ray, and whale shark sightings. Gather data on the biodiversity of the coral reef systems. Full dive training provided.
