Abigail Cotton, Year 11, plays in AFL New Zealand Youth. This year she is playing in the over 16 Year grade and plays at North Harbour Auckland with team members from schools all over north Auckland. She started in September 2017 and loves it.

Abigail was selected to be one of nineteen girls for the AFLNZ Academy Level 2 2018 out of all the teams New Zealand. The means they are specially trained to become serious athletes for competition. The culmination of the Academy training is that you get selected again in April 2018 to go to Wellington to represent NZ against Australia. 

Abigail played 3 games down in Wellington against the Australian selected top girls team that came over to play at the West Pac Stadium known as the “Cake Tin”. This was also the first time that all girls teams had ever competed inside this stadium. Abigail scored the first goal for NZ and was recognized for this.
