This year KingsWay will play its Primary and Year 7 & 8 teams through Rodney District Sports (RDS). This is due to a considerable lower fee for our students and local grounds (Year 1 - 4 play at Metro Park). RDS is registered with Northern Regional Football Federation and teams that play in the league will continue to play in the same competition as previous years but just in a different coloured shirt.

Term 1 leagues will be on Friday nights over 5 weeks from Friday 24th February to Friday 24 March. See website for details.

Social Netball Year 7 & 8, 2023

We are trialing a new netball program in Term 2. A local, fun netball competition between Whangaparaoa College, Orewa College and KingsWay for Year 7 and Year 8 netballers. Each school will provide two Year 7 teams and two Year 8 teams to play for 6 weeks in term 2.
We will still be sending our competitive teams e.g Year 7/1, 7/2, 7/3, 8/1, 8/2 & 8/3 teams to compete in the North Harbour Netball competition but this social competition is for those wanting to play/take up netball but not travel. The advantage is we play undercover, play locally and at a reduced cost. Teams will still train with a coach on Wednesday between 3.30pm - 4.30pm and then games will be played either at 4.45pm - 5.15pm or 5.25pm - 5.55pm.

Summer Soccer Term 1

Summer Football is new in Term 1 and takes place on Monday afternoons at the Hibiscus Coast Football Club. All teams are school-based (not club). Round one in Term 1, 2023 starts on Monday 20th February and the last round will be on 3rd April 2023. We will only make up teams if we have enough players in that age group, otherwise players will be refunded. Please sign up on the school web site now.

Tennis Term 1

Tennis is offered competitively and non-competitively to Year 7–13 students in Terms 1 & 4. Trainings will be Tuesday mornings 7.30am - 8.30am with a tennis professional and Thursday afternoons 3.30pm - 4.30pm with the TIC. Sign up on the website.

Teams for 2023

If you have a group of friends that would like to play a sport together in a local social or competitive competition we are happy put teams together and enter you. Either with or without training sessions.
Sport does not have to be competitive to enjoy but getting some fitness regularly with a bunch of mates is great. If you would like to explore this option further come and chat with Mrs Lynda Hay in the Sports office.

Automatic Payments (AP) to pay for sports.

Automatic payments for winter sports can be started now and must be completed by the set date for that sport. If you are interested in paying sport fees by AP please sign up for your sport under the AP registration. If you need a longer time to make payment than stated on the web page please contact Elana Theron in the sports dept.

Benefits of sport for your child

Sport has traditionally been viewed as a way to stay healthy but its importance goes much further. Playing sports teaches life lessons like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, accountability, and teamwork.

Studies have shown that exercise increases blood flow to the brain and helps the body build more connections, leading to increased concentration, enhanced memory, stimulated creativity, and better-developed problem solving skills. In short, playing sport can help with academic achievement.

From a social standpoint, sports are a powerful tool that brings people together and creates a sense of community. They develop friendships and connections that bond together people from all walks of life.
