A big thank you to our local Fire Rescue First Response Training team from Stanmore Bay for the Chainsaw Safety and Use 2-day course they ran for some of our Year 12 and 13 STAR and Gateway students.

Each student was provided with a full health and safety kit along with their own chainsaw, which, by the end of the course, they could strip down, clean, complete basic maintenance and rebuild the machine. Alongside the theory was a couple of hours spent “cutting up wood“ out on a small farm in Dairy Flat. Here they practised the many ways of using the blade and the safety procedures needed in each situation. A great skill to have when working on building sites, farming, landscaping, conservation and rescue work.
