Covid-19 Update, 17 March 2020
Dear KingsWay Community,
Please note that we have a family who has chosen to self-isolate as their child shared an aeroplane with the Wellington case last Friday. The children are in the Middle and Senior School. None of the family are showing any Covid-19 symptoms. If anything changes, I will advise you immediately.
Many parents are asking for guidance regarding the status of school sport now. College Sport issued a response today (following) which outlines their response to Covid-19.
Regards,
Graeme Budler
Executive Principal
Please be assured that at all times, College Sport Auckland is following advice of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education in terms of sports events under its sanctioning and management.
We respect the right of schools to withdraw from competitions where there they feel have concerns regarding COVID-19.
Later today I will update all schools on which competitions or events will be cancelled.
It is our intention to continue to run the summer sports weekly competitions over the next three weeks, however many one-day tournaments will be cancelled.
College Sport Auckland COVID-19 Guidelines, as at 17 March 2020
At all times, CSA will follow the advice of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, in terms of both the extra-curricular events under its management and its own staff considerations.
In respect of the extra-curricular events under College Sport Auckland management, the following will apply:
- Where a school closes for a period due to COVID-19, that school will temporarily be suspended from all CSA competitions until the school reopens. CSA will support the rescheduling of games, if appropriate, at a later time with no default or home advantage penalties incurred.
- Where a visiting school does not wish to play another school that has had one or more of their current students confirmed with COVID-19, then the visiting school has the option of rescheduling fixtures with that school. No default or home advantage penalties will be incurred.
- Should a school voluntarily withdraw from some or all of CSA competitions because of genuine COVID-19 concerns within their school, but not close their school, this should not be seen as a default and CSA will support the rescheduling of games, if appropriate, at a later time with no default or home advantage penalties incurred.
- In the event that games cannot be rescheduled and are in fact abandoned, competition points will be shared.
- Should a non-school venue (i.e. Council) advise a closure of its facilities due to COVID-19 concerns, CSA will endeavour to mitigate the effect upon competitions through rescheduling and venue changes. However, if an equitable outcome for the schools is not possible, suspension of the competition is the likely outcome.
- The decision to proceed with events where large gatherings are expected i.e. regional tournaments and finals will be made on a case by case basis. This is in line with the Ministry of Health advice to cancel gatherings where more than 500 people are expected. This consideration will be included in the CSA Event Health and Safety Plan.
- At all CSA fixtures, officials, participants and spectators are urged to follow Ministry of Health advice, as outlined here; https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus.
Given the evolving nature of the issue, CSA may need to amend this policy in line with the most recent information available. Any updates to this policy will be communicated to its member schools in a timely manner.
