Junior Campus Notices - Week 2, Term 1

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

Dear Parents

Welcome back to another year at KingsWay Junior Campus!

It was so lovely to walk around the studio on Thursday last week and to see the many happy, smiling faces of your children.

I trust you all had a fabulous summer holiday and were able to get some time off from work to enjoy spending time with your friends and family.

Please remember to read the weekly emails that are sent to you from your child’s teacher as they contain important information about the learning that is taking place in the classes. Homework expectations and the Memory Verse for the week is also contained therein.

Thank you to the parents who take the time to ensure their children are neatly and correctly dressed in the correct school uniform every day. It sends a very strong message to them about how much you value them being here.

Welcome to all our new families in Primary! I trust you will make new friends and soon feel like part of our KingsWay community.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Parent Meeting on Feb 12th and at the Family Fun Night on Feb 18th, for those of you who can make it. It’s a really great opportunity to get the whole school community together, so do pop along, if even for only an hour or so.

I roto i ngā mahi ki te Atua’

Head of Primary School

Sun Hats and Sandals

A reminder to all parents that Term 1 is sunhats and sandals term. The primary summer uniform includes a sunhat. Please ensure your child has a hat to wear when outside during break times and outdoor activities. Students without a hat will be required to remain in the shade during break times.

Year 5 & 6 Swimming Carnival

This year the Primary has made a change to our annual Year 5&6 Primary Swimming Sports Carnival.

The past two years we have combined our Swimming Sports Carnival with Middle School in order to make it a sustainable event.

Unfortunately, we will be unable to run this event in 2020. While we do recognise swimming as a respected sport at KingsWay, we will no longer be holding our annual Swimming Sports Carnival. We will, however, be continuing with our swimming lessons in Term 3 & 4, for all our Years 1-6 students, as this is an essential part of our curriculum.

In place of the Swimming Sports Carnival, we have recognised an opportunity to build a Year 5 and 6 event that addresses our community need, being coastal. We have partnered with the Orewa Surf Life Saving Club and will be conjointly running a Beach Carnival Day, where the focus will be on Beach Safety and building a healthy respect for and understanding of the ocean. Various events will be built into this exciting day and we anticipate that this event will cater to the wider need.

On Tuesday, 18 of February (Week 4), our Year 5’s will participate in this day as a pilot event. We plan to run another day in term 4 for our Year 6 children, to set them up for next summer.

Our school will still be participating in the local Swimming Zone Day on the 26 of March, and Mrs Beguely will talk to the children in due course about how they will be able to be selected to represent our Primary on this day.

We look forward to our upcoming day with the Year 5’s and will hopefully see many of our Year 5 parents at the event.

Ka kite ano,

Jordan Barley
Primary PE
