KingsWay students have achieved significantly higher results in all aspects of NCEA compared to both Decile 8-10 schools and national results. We are extremely proud of our staff and students for showing such resilience in a tough COVID-19 disrupted year and achieving such outstanding results.

In 2020, significant time and resources were placed to track and support students at risk of not achieving the relevant NCEA qualification. More robust tracking systems and collaboration between teachers, management and pastoral care systems has ensured that students achieve their potential. Subject placement and suitable pathways have been carefully considered and our NCEA results are very pleasing. The Pathways faculty have indicated that all students enrolled in KingsWay at the end of last year have now achieved NCEA Levels 1 and 2, but some credits are still being processed and do not appear in this report at this time. Excellence endorsements in Year 11 were similar to those of a Decile 8-10 school, and in Year 13 they were over 15% higher than Decile 8-10, which is a magnificent feat. Our weaker cohort in Year 12 managed to lift the Excellence endorsement rate from being just at national average last year, to being significantly above national average and just below Decile 8-10. Our University Entrance achievement is once again very high, over 15% higher than Decile 8-10 schools, helping to ensure that options are kept open for future pathways for students. We are particularly proud of our Year 13 Cohort, which achieved a 96.9% pass rate, with 38.7% being endorsed with Excellence.

KingsWay has added more value to our students over the last two years than Decile 8-10 schools and the national average despite having a higher starting point in Level 1.

As can be seen in the above graphs, significant value has been added each year even though our pass rates at Level 1 were extremely high, being 11.7% higher than Decile 8-10 and 20.3% higher than the national average. Even though our starting point at Level 1 was 11.7% higher than the Decile 8-10 Band, we added more from Level 1 to 2 value than Decile 8-10 schools. As shown, the results from Level 1 to Level 2 tend to increase as students have become accustomed to NCEA, however, there is a significant increase in difficulty from Level 2 to Level 3 and subsequently the overall results normally decrease. In 2020 however, KingsWay has seen a 0.3% increase from Level 2 to Level 3 pass rates whilst both Decile 8-10 and national schools have seen a significant decrease.
