KingsWay School —

A Note from Nicky Heyns

The Year one students had a wonderful adventure visiting the Silverdale Pioneer Village. The bus ride was something new for many of them, too. The students were divided into groups with supervising adults and made their way around the village going into the Post Office Shop, the School House, the Chapel, the Museum, the Shed and other intriguing places containing items from the past. Many students dressed for the occasion and looked very cute in their “olden day” clothes.

Gym Kids has been a firm favourite with the students, and they have had the opportunity to use equipment and learn muscle control and balance in a fun setting. The gymnasts who have been coaching them are skilled and able to manage the students well as they do their rotations.

Unfortunately, we have not had many opportunities to engage in Discovery Time this term but the few sessions we have had, have been so much fun. The teachers set up many different stations that would appeal to a wide range of students and the students get to choose which activities they would like to engage with and for how long. Firm favourites are Dress-up, Painting, Chalk and Water Play, construction, Dance, Drawing and Stencilling and Playdough. It’s a time of relaxation, co-operation and free expression.

We thank God for the many wonderful times we are able to have with these children. We pray that He will continue to keep His hand of blessing over us all at KingsWay School.

Road Safety

If your child walks, bikes or scooters to school and back, please make sure you regularly talk with them about road safety, particularly around where to cross and how to cross roads safely. Please advise your child to find a safe place to cross (i.e. at a crossing or an intersection with traffic lights) and to stop, look, listen and not run.

We do not advise that students in Year 1-3 walk or ride to school without an adult or senior student alongside them, as they are too young to be able to make the necessary judgement calls when crossing roads. Please encourage your children to walk in public places not in secluded side streets.

Car park/child safety

Parents using the car park and surrounds are reminded to please DRIVE SLOWLY and not speed in or out of the car park areas. This is especially important when parents bring children to the ‘Drop off’ zone in the mornings.

When arriving at School and leaving school grounds, please hold your child’s hand to ensure their safety. When possible reverse into a car park to ensure greater visibility of pedestrians when exiting the car park at peak times.

Front Car Park

The ‘Drop off’ zone in the front car park is for use in the mornings only and is NOT a pick-up zone after school. The bus that shuttles primary students after school to their connecting bus in Longmore Lane is under tight time constraints and cannot afford to be delayed by cars exiting the carpark. Children taking the bus home must ride on the shuttle bus from the Junior Campus to Longmore Lane and not walk over to their connecting bus.

Bottom car park: Please use the bottom carpark in the afternoons when picking up your child. Disabled carparks: Please do not use these designated carparks at any time, unless you have a Disabled Parking Permit clearly displayed.

Books For Life

Books for Life is a NZ registered Charity that advocates for every person to have access to books because the right books can change lives in a family, community, society, and country. Their ministry fully depends on donated books, which are sorted and then distributed to less privileged communities in need, especially across Africa.

They are currently appealing to families at KingsWay Primary to donate their preloved, extra, or even new books to those who are less privileged.

Any and all books are welcome, particularly Christian authored books, including Bibles, theological books, as well as Educational books from Early Childhood to University Level.

Donated books can be placed in the box labelled ‘Books For Life’ in the Junior Campus foyer until the end of Term.

Parents of Prayer

We welcome all parents who would like to join our friendly Parent Prayer group to pray for our Primary School on Tuesdays at 9am in the Junior Campus staff room.
