Helping the Homeless in Auckland City
Humanity NZ is the name of the group of people who reach out to the Homeless on Wednesday nights in the city. We can help too.
Now that it is getting cold the homeless people often stop coming to the meal that is outside the Auckland Library as they don’t want to get wet. There is no way for them to get dry again. For this reason we now have soup carts that people wheel down Queens Street and the side streets.
They give out soup and buns. Last week was exciting as they were able to pray for many people as well. It is sad though as they are so cold and often just sitting straight on the concrete.
Here are some options of how you can help if you want to:
You can help with warmth by donating any surplus clothes, shoes, blankets, sleeping bags or cushions. Please deliver these to the Senior Campus reception area.
You can help with hunger by:
Making soup and putting it in a disposable plastic container (like an ice-cream container). Please deliver (either fresh or frozen) these to the Senior Campus reception.
Donating snacks that homeless people can put in their backpack for the next day.
You can help with hygiene by donating new:
Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, sanitiser, deodorant etc. Please deliver these to the Senior Campus reception area.
