Year 1 Newsletter
Week 6, Term 2
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,
The Year 1's are very lucky to have been given the opportunity to learn about softball with North Harbour Softball. Despite not knowing much about the sport beforehand, our tamariki were seen engaging and participating enthusiastically throughout the sessions.
The coaches were really impressed with how teachable and courageous our tamariki were and they cannot wait to come back again for another two sessions in Weeks 8 and 9!
After our sessions, the teachers extended the learning by showing videos of the sport and linking the experience to our writing activity. Here are some fantastic writing pieces written by our older Year 1 tamariki:
Ka pai (well done), Year Ones! The kaiako are all very proud of you all!
Quick Goodbyes Before the Bell
It is noticeable that our tamariki have been growing in their confidence and self-management skills since they started school. In the mornings, we encourage you to do the goodbyes BEFORE the bell and keep them short. This will help the students to understand the importance of starting their morning routine and getting themselves ready for learning.
If your child is struggling to keep the goodbyes short, please do not hesitate to reach out to the teachers and seek ideas to support them. We appreciate your understanding towards helping the teachers with this morning transitioning time.
Home Learning Expectation
At KWS, home learning tasks should be done with diligence and consistency. We believe that regular practices will support students in retaining and consolidating their learning. If you are unsure of your child's home learning tasks, please get in touch with your child's classroom teacher.
