KingsWay School —

A Note from Nikki Buys

New Initiative for Gifted Students in Year 5 and Year 6:

Our awesome God created everyone with unique abilities, talents and gifts. We should invest the gifts that God has blessed us with, wisely.

This term we are trialing a programme for Gifted Students across Year 5 and Year 6. This will be the first group of students to take part in this KingsWay Stepping Stones initiative. Stepping Stones is a non-competitive, educational programme designed to encourage students to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to solve hypothetical future scenarios.

“‘Stepping Stones’ is a part of ‘Future Problem Solving’ and has close links to the New Zealand Curriculum. Students have the opportunity to both develop their own key competencies and to explore how other people develop and apply the key competencies whilst problem solving. Teachers ('Coaches') will have the opportunity to apply the effective pedagogies as they facilitate 21st century collaborative learning.”

Students selected to participate in the trial programme will bring home a permission slip/letter for parents to sign.

  • Are you driven nuts by someone who can’t make up their mind?
  • Or exasperated by someone’s need to get it right and perfect, every time!
  • Perhaps you all too familiar with a “Show pony” that keeps horsing around, even before they talk!
  • …Or you feel short-changed as the most “outspoken” person gets what they want every time.
  • Those ‘weird’ people that you want to sort out, the very same people who want to sort you out!
  • Perhaps they’re not ‘Weird’, but ‘Wired ‘a certain way.

As a People Interpreter, Author and the winner of many prestigious speaking awards (3 times Speaker of the Year) Allie has the Midas touch in bringing to you an informative humorous & fun packed presentation.

Regardless of your upbringing, genetics or circumstances the key is respecting and understanding our differences.

Come for a fun and entertaining evening with New Zealand’s most acclaimed professional award-winning speaker. You will discover specific keys can enhance your life. Walking School Bus

Come and Meet Buster at Kingsway School

Buster the Walking School Bus is paying us a visit. Look for him at the school gate.

A walking school bus is a group of children who walk together to/from school with parent supervisors along a set route. Parents take turns and shouldn’t need to walk more than one day a week. The other 4 days are free.

The children have fun, socialise with other kids and arrive at school on time. It’s also a healthy way to get to school and reduces congestion at the school gate.

Come and say hi to our mascot Buster and find out how it all works. We will be at the school gate at school pick up on Monday 9th August, followed by a Parent Interest Meeting in the school staffroom on Wednesday 11th August at 2:15pm.

No Child Drop-off Before 8.30am

Please do not drop your child to school before 8.30am.

We have noticed an increase in the number of students being dropped off at school before 8:30am.

Please note that the Junior Campus does not open until 8:30am as the staff are all in meetings and unable to supervise students until the bell rings. Please DO NOT drop your child off at school before 8:30am. Thank you

Parent Volunteers

We are looking for parent volunteers to help assist with sorting through lost property items in the draws beside the Primary office. This would mean sorting through lost property once or twice a term, returning named items to classes and at the end of term arranging unnamed items on a table outside the admin block for parent to look through. Please email jcreception@kingsway.school.nz if you would like to help.

Parents please check your children’s school uniform jumper to ensure that your child has brought home the correct jumper. We encourage parents to ensure all uniform items are clearly marked with your child’s name.

Pyjama Day

Junior Campus has raised $9420 for the cross Country/FUN RUN!

This means the students have won a PYJAMA DAY at school + 2 periods of FREE time with their teacher!

The Pyjama Day is scheduled for Friday 13th August so get ready to come to school in your favourite PJ’s and slippers!

Parking in the Bottom Car Park

We have ‘reserved parking’ at the base of the stairs in the bottom car park, marked for parents with babies. We ask that parents without babies find an alternative place to park in order to keep these spaces available.

Treat Tuesdays

Every Tuesday we have ‘Treat Tuesdays’ where children can purchase a Frozen Yoghurt or Lick Ice Block for $3.00 (coins only on the day). This is an ongoing fundraiser to enable KingsWay Primary to purchase our next slide.

Scholastic Lucky Book Club

Research shows that students who are given exposure to books daily by someone who loves books will develop the desire to learn to read. This intrinsic motivation can do more to help a child learn to read than all the worksheets in the world.

As a school we are excited to partner with Scholastic Book club to promote reading & books to our children. Please click on the link below for more details on the Book club. All money spent will earn rewards for our school to use in the Library.

For help at any time you may call 0800 266 525 and chat to the friendly customer care team at Scholastic, or click on the help button on the Book Club platform.

You can also email bookclub@scholastic.co.nz

Thank you for your wonderful support.

Yummy Stickers

Have you been collecting Yummy stickers this year? Please bring your completed sticker charts and put them in the box by the Junior Campus reception. They can also be handed in at the Senior Campus reception, with a note saying that they need to go to the Junior Campus.

This helps to supply our PE Department with sports equipment - every sticker chart counts!!
