Full School Notices - Week 1, Term 2

KingsWay School —

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 2. It is full of opportunity and promise for our young people.

Please do read all the information we send to you each Friday. We work hard to include everything you need to know.

This helps with the smooth running of our school. Of note this week is the letter from our Board of Trustees regarding possible union action this term.

We will include all relevant information regarding any effects of union action each week for the following week.

Thank you for being a parent community who regularly pray for our school.

Industrial Action – PPTA Teachers’ Strikes

The PPTA have advised our KingsWay School Board of their plan to take strike action again this term. One action is a Rolling Strike which is where members stay offsite for one day. Details on this will be in the next weekly update, including which year levels will remain open. Another action is the Rostering Home strike whereby a different year level from Year 9-13 will be closed for instruction on a specific day of the week for that week. The plan includes two separate days in total for each year level between Week 2 - Week 7 of this term. You will be updated each Friday regarding planned industrial action for the following week.

Should Rostering Home strike action occur, students of the effected year level are not expected at school on this day and are encouraged to continue with their learning at home. The library is open to receive a limited number of students who cannot secure alternative care options for the day of the strike. Should a student attend school, their attendance will be recorded and they are expected to wear school uniform and remain on school grounds for the entire day. Normal school behaviour expectations apply. We will remain open as normal for all other year levels across the school.

We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, however, strike action is compulsory for all union members. Please be assured that staying open for instruction is our priority and wherever possible we will. We look forward to quickly resolving this matter so KingsWay can continue to deliver its outstanding Christian education programme. We want to reiterate our support to all our teaching staff and our desire to see improved conditions for all schools and teachers. Please be aware it is possible that the NZEI union may also take strike action this term.

We will keep you posted via the KingsWay App should the Ministry of Education and the Union resolve the dispute before Thursday.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Claydon
KingsWay School BOT Chair

Sunset Shakespeare

KingsWay School is proud to present “Sunset Shakespeare”!

Come down to the Youngman Arena at the Senior Campus on Thursday 4th May at 5:30-6:15pm to witness the hard work of the Year 12 Drama class as they transport you to the Elizabethan era! With extracts and performances from Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, you’ll be experiencing Shakespeare as an audience in the 1600’s would; minimal technology, up close and personal with the actors themselves! Of course, we’ll have some more modern comforts too. Hot Milo and tea will be provided and you are more than welcome to bring a blanket and/or a cushion to cosy up on in the evening, as it could get pretty chilly. There is no entry fee but a koha is encouraged to cover costs. We look forward to seeing you there!

Tuck Shop - Term 2

ONLINE ORDERS will be open again on Monday, 1 May 2023.

Enrolments in 2024

KingsWay School families are encouraged to make applications well in advance of the entry point for their child.

If siblings have not been enrolled officially, places could fill. Please ensure you go through the same application process for all your children.

Homestay Families Needed for Male Students

KingsWay School is looking to increase our accommodation options for International students, particularly for male students. We are wanting to find outgoing, active, loving, families who would be excited to host an international student in their home. Preferably families with school aged children.

  • Homestay families need to be fluent English speakers.
  • A homestay caregiver needs to provide all meals, compassionate care and concern for the student.
  • They will be responsible for an international student 24/7 when they are not attending school.
  • Not all international students come from Christian homes so potentially this is an evangelistic opportunity.
  • An international student needs to have their own bedroom equipped with bed, linen, wardrobe and/or drawers, desk, lamp etc.
  • Homestay families are remunerated with learning about another culture, showing the love of Jesus and being paid $320 per week.
