KingsWay School —

Dear Parents,

As this is the last newsletter for 2020, we want to thank all of you for your continued support in what has been a very unique year. We appreciate the significant responsibility you have entrusted to us as we partner with you in the growth and development of KingsWay students.

NCEA Exams have continued this week, although most KingsWay students will soon be finished. Meanwhile, all Year 10 and some Year 11 students have been involved in courses and activities on-site, including courses by the GET Group and a Life Skills Course.

The Life Skills and Careers Planning course and the GET life skills course teaches students career planning, job search skills, communication skills, self-management, and strategies such as time-management, managing stress, and completing forms required for everyday situations. Students who complete both of these this will gain 16 Level 2 NCEA credits, which will set them up well for 2021 and beyond. These courses provide opportunities for students to reflect on their individual personalities and communication styles through group-based activities as shown in the photos below.

Additional workshops have taken place this week around student personality, understanding their unique Holland's code and how this can feed into potential career pathways. Students have also demonstrated their servant nature by helping out with tasks around the school and also assisting in the local kindy and pre-schools.

Monday 7th Dec - Year 10 Real Talk & Form Class Challenge

Students will spend the morning in two different presentations and workshops run by Ben Greenwood from Revolution Tour discussing mental health and anxiety. The school has utilised some of their resources during the challenging lockdown period for students. In the second session, Todd Funk from Thinking Matters will present on Social Justice and how it relates to ‘Biblical Justice’.

After lunch, the annual Form Class Challenge will take place from 12.30pm to 3.10pm on the field and AstroTurf. Students will be working in their form classes to complete a number of challenges, with the goal of being crowned Form Class winners for 2020. The activities are a mixture of strategic and group activities and will not be too demanding physically.

Please note – Students can wear mufti clothing for the full day Monday.

Tuesday 8th December

Year 10 form classes will be celebrating from 8.45 - 11.45am with a form class ‘party’ or celebration, including a shared morning tea in their individual classes. Students will spend time together eating, chatting, and may watch a movie or do some fun activities throughout the morning. It is the final opportunity for students to be in form class with their teachers prior to the boys and girls two-day programmes.

Please could students bring something suitable to share with their form class for morning tea.
