Truth

Fostering Truth in the Middle School
    by KingsWay School

Truth is so foundational to us followers of Jesus Christ and therefore one of our values in the KingsWay School Curriculum. In the Middle Years, both the Middle School and Junior Secondary teachers plan ways of supporting our young people to understand, articulate, adopt and apply our Christian values.

We focus on truth both explicitly in content and implicitly by weaving this value through the broader student experience. We endeavour for our students to understand that truth comes from God rather than of our own design, as the world would claim today. As we investigate and discuss various topics, we are intentional about unpacking contexts from a biblical worldview. God’s word is explored as our foundational truth. While the Bible does not always specifically mention the details of all topics, we can glean principles which help us.

Debate, discussion and critical thinking are encouraged so that students learn to listen to, respect and understand various perspectives. These are important life skills that help our young people articulate their faith with reasoning. Sharing the truth of the gospel with others is fundamental to fulfilling our role as Christians. During their time in the Middle Years, students have opportunities to do this in various ways, including role plays and group discussions. Truth is central to how we support our students with friendship skills, decision making, self-reflection on their learning and restoring situations when there is conflict.
