Leadership - Junior Secondary

    by KingsWay School

Students, selected for their ability to shape culture, participated in the Strength to Strength Leadership course. They spent a week developing the capabilities of leaders through ten structured workshops. As a result, they learned of their strengths, developed time management skills, invested in team building and reflected upon the processes required for change. This culminated in the students pitching ideas for an activation project. Watch this space as we put into place student-driven and servant-hearted changes!

Our leaders have been hosting events in the Middle Years Top House event. In addition, they ran Whānau assemblies, creating hype and noise in support of their Whānau group. They were said to show outstanding commitment and served faithfully throughout these events.

Our newly appointed Hospitality team have been active in serving their community. They have supported the Family Fun Night and will be called upon throughout the year to welcome guests at events in Te Kāinga and across the school.

Introducing the Student Volunteer Army in the Junior Secondary

The Student Volunteer Army (SVA) was launched for Junior Secondary only a few weeks ago, and we’re already celebrating our champion volunteers! 14 proud students were awarded their SVA badges for membership qualification (5 hours served) and bronze award (32 hours); 2 of them have served over 100 hours already.

We have found that many of our students are already volunteering their time with bands, sports coaching, serving in church, or helping neighbours. SVA is a fantastic way to recognise the hard work they are doing to bless others, inspire their peers to emulate their example, bolster their CV and provide new opportunities where young people can get involved in the community, such as tree planting, sausage sizzles, beach clean-ups and the like.

Jesus said the greatest among us must be a servant, as he was [Matthew 20:26], and it’s amazing to see so many young people putting their faith in action to love and serve others.
