Understanding The Message of Easter

Across the whole school students have been involved in activities around the understanding of the Easter message over the past few weeks. For example, the Year 12 Lifelab students learnt about the events of Easter through an interactive ‘Stations of the Cross” rotation.

As we were not able to host our annual Easter assembly in person this year, we produced unique assembly videos. Students from across the school shared the Easter message through the arts - music, dance and visual arts. Students had time to reflect on the meaning of Easter and how to respond to the gospel message. We continue to pray that the Holy Spirit will use these lessons to ignite a passion for Jesus in the life of our students.

Below are the videos played to students replacing our traditional 'Easter Assembly'.

Stations of the Cross

This year, as part of our inaugural Lifelab launch and teaching of one of the 4 themes ‘Spiritual Disciplines,’ the Year 12 Teachers thought an engaging way to reflect upon Easter would be to replicate the ‘Stations of the Cross.’ Within Jerusalem today, an age-old ritual of walking the Via Dolorosa where Jesus Himself walked on the way to Golgotha invites reflection at 14 ‘stations.’ At each location, people take time to reflect on Jesus’s state of mind and sense of purpose and will in the journey to the Cross.

Over a two week period, different teachers prepared a localised version of these stations and invited students to walk in reflection of the Saviour’s steps towards crucifixion. We finished with a message focusing on the Resurrection and shared the symbolic Lord’s Supper together. Students acknowledged that the experience was very meaningful; they enjoyed the interactions as something different, they were challenged to consider what Jesus thought and felt in the process, and they appreciated the level of effort taken by teachers to produce something just for them.

I pray this Easter season encourages more reflection, as we have sowed and watered but God ultimately ‘brings the increase.’ Below are photographs taken at some of these sessions.
