Special Character Professional Development (PD)

    by KingsWay School

At KingsWay School we run a a flexible and personalised Special Character Professional Development programme which individualises and recognises prior learning. It speaks to the needs of each teacher and considers various capacities, capabilities, and experience of staff.

In Term 1 and 2 new staff to KingsWay are involved in an induction programme which covers the basics of Christian education, the Christian teacher, Christian curriculum and biblical literacy. All other staff have options to engage with courses that are tailored to different levels of expertise and experience as a Christian and as a Christian teacher. These courses range in depth and scope providing all staff with opportunities to grow. Some examples include tertiary qualifications like the “New Zealand Certificate in Christian Studies”, audited tertiary level courses on the metanarrative of the Bible, in house courses like “Christianity in Aotearoa” and even book club groups on Christian pedagogical practice.

In Term 3 we are working through a compulsory component of the Special Character PD covering important aspects of our Special Character documents. We are grateful for the expertise of Dr Jacqui Lloyd (our expert professional development partner provided by the NZCPT) as we are covering some of the theological underpinnings of our faith.

In Term 4 we will take time to apply our learning as we meet to discuss implementation of the concepts in our planning of curriculum and the various aspects of school life.
