Overseas Missions

It has been very exciting to see a resurgence of interest in overseas mission post Covid.

Cambodia Mission Trip

(Video above)

Last December a Senior School mission team went to Cambodia with Asian Outreach. This trip involved travel around several areas of Cambodia with ministry mostly basedat Stung Treng at the Hope Centre, which is the ministry base for Asian Outreach. Our students had opportunity to help support the work of Asian Outreach: through school visits; church visits where they shared testimonies and helped lead worship; running an English programme; and visiting and praying for families living in local rural areas. Our students really were amazing ambassadors for the school and for Jesus!

Some comments from students on the impact for them:

“It was amazing to see kids so grateful, especially considering their nation's past. They are a nation of gratitude, they don't take things for granted which is something very good that we should do as well.”
“This trip had such an incredible influence on my faith journey and my world view. I found that the trip really grew my connection to Christ and pushed me to seek deeper understanding of His life and what the great commission is.”
“God moved in so many ways, from praying for the people we met (whether it was outspoken or a silent prayer), to the joy that came home with us.”

Sincere thanks go to Glenn Carter from Asian Outreach, Daniel Bennett, Aimee Robinson and Lily Gatman for accompanying this team, as well as the community that supported our students along this journey with encouragement, prayer and financial support. Praise God for His provision and safety.

Philippines Trip

This July of this year, a team of 15 students led by Matt Harris, Colin Thomson and Sue Morris will join Andrew Marriott from MotiVate and will travel to Cebu in the Philippines on a short-term mission trip.

The focus is on outreach to children and youth through sports and games, as well as supporting MotiVate’s established ministries in Cebu. We will be helping with a children’s feeding programme and serving alongside local pastors and church youth. The team have been preparing for this trip by engaging in a Missions 101 course during flexi-study time and have already had one boot camp which really supported team bonding. Worship, testimonies and learning about cultural differences is happening alongside growing skills in running games for children and honing the team’s basketball, football and volleyball skills! Pleas pray for the team as they raise their finances and spiritually prepare for what is ahead.

Local Mission

We are endeavouring to expand local mission opportunities for our students so that “every student has an opportunity to engage in sharing Jesus with the world.”

Lead by Mrs Hunt and Mrs Raikes, a group of students from Year 9 went to the Elevate Centre in Onehunga to attend a day camp for children and youth with intellectual disabilities. Elevate Disability Trust (in partnership with CBM) is an organisation that supports children with intellectual and physical disabilities. The day included singing, tabloid sports, arts and crafts, games and yummy food. The organisers were gushing with praise for the way the KingsWay students involved themselves and helped out practically. It was an honour it was to see the students’ confidence grow and to see them delighting in the joy of others.

The Senior School Missions Council have been volunteering at the SALT programme run by Northgate Church on Monday afternoons. This was a student-initiated project to engage with local mission and we are excited that our students are growing in their understanding of local mission as they serve and learn alongside some experienced and wise mentors. Students are involved with packing food parcels, helping the community members who attend to select items from the food bank, and praying with these people as they are ministered to through this programme.
