Whale Tail Project  by KingsWay School

Primary School - Week 8, Term 1

Whale Tales Art Trail

This year, a truly unique collaboration took place that combined the celebration of Aotearoa, marine conservation and the arts. Beautiful whale tail sculptures, sponsored by businesses, were designed by artists and children with the purpose to highlight themes of protection and restoring the mauri of our ocean. We were fortunate and grateful to have our whale tail sponsored by sKids. The main purpose of this project was to raise significant funds to power the work WWF-New Zealand does for the protection of marine life. Mrs. Lorraine Henry and Ms Karen Pretorius led the project for our Primary School and, with a select few students, delivered an exciting and lovely looking whale tail. Thank you to all the students involved that dedicated so much of their own time into doing this. What is blessing to have been able to use your talents in such a beautiful way!

Learning to speak Spanish

(Aprendiendo a hablar español)

It has been an absolute pleasure teaching Spanish and things are going well. Students are adjusting to classroom protocols, rediscovering the sounds and remembering words or expressions they had previously learned. As their confidence grows they are using the language outside of the classroom too, greeting me in Spanish when they see me on the school grounds during morning tea, at lunch or whenever I walk past them. This really warms my heart as it indicates to me that they are beginning to see Spanish not just as something they were taught in the classroom but as another means of communicating. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the terms unfold.
