Yeah the Boys

Last week the ‘Yeah the Boys’ council ran their first event of the year successfully. This was a Year 12 versus Year 13 “Champion’s League-esque" football game. The turnout was great, with many students and staff coming to support this fun event. Mr Ward and Mr Hagen graciously commentated, adding their own unique humour and flavour to the event. Well done to Xavier Fenton, Head of ‘Yeah the Boys’ Council, and the rest of the council team for facilitating this.

Assessments & Anxiety

Because of the way coursework is delivered, assessments tend to be ‘bunched’ near the end of each Term, as classes have not covered enough content prior to that for assessments. While we want students to be motivated and keen on doing their best, too much concern for how they could go can turn into anxiety. We encourage you to talk to students about how they are going right now and what coping mechanisms they can put in place to reduce stress.

Flexi Study & Year 11 Students

Throughout Term 1, Year 11’s have had a structured program giving them an overview of study skills and how to plan well for assessments. The aim being to equip our students with the tools and techniques needed to successfully manage their academic workloads and pressures. From Term 2 onwards, Year 11’s are encouraged to remain on-site during Flexi Study time to obtain advice from teachers around assessments and learning, however, they may sign out as Year 12’s and 13’s have been able to do so. It is important to note that at times throughout the year we may require students to stay on-site during Flexi Study afternoons for various workshops or events and will notify students of these times. We would encourage parents of all year levels to discuss with their children what constitutes effective study and ensure study time is used wisely and effectively.
