World Vision 40 Hour Famine

We had a highly motivated and enthusiastic group of student leaders from Years 10-13 who endeavoured to engage all students in the World Vision 40 Hour Famine fundraising effort.

We wanted students to look outside of themselves by raising money for people suffering from the effects of famine in Sub Saharan Africa. Our target was $20 000, but we are happy to say we have more than doubled it, thanks to kind donations of the community and a variety of charity events organised by our World Vision students at KingsWay School!

Leading up to the 40 Hour Famine weekend, there was a class competition to see which class (and their teacher) could raise the most money in the different areas of the school - Primary, Middle and Senior Schools. Some teachers were well ahead of the game here, with Mr Cahill heading the fundraising leader board for the majority of June (see the Principal's Couch video at the end of of this article).

Apart from mufti day, pizza lunches and sausage sizzles, Senior School students held and organised a Quiz Night on Friday 25 June at the KingsWay Event Centre, which was open to the community.

The Middle School held a “Wheels for Meals” fun lunchtime where they paid an entrance fee to use their scooters or skateboards on ramps and obstacles set up on our courts.

The Primary school did “Chores for Change”, volunteering their time to help raise money.

Individuals and groups of students at KingsWay had a variety of other ways of fundraising- there was an online concert put on and played by our own Mr Sharplin, as well as a group of senior students and teachers who walked the ‘Kai Walkeach raising a minimum of $50 by walking 20km between 5-8.30am on Saturday 26 June.

Harrison Clark, who organised the Kai Walk, raised $2,310.00! Many students and their families fasted from food, technology and even talking in order to help the plight of others.

KingsWay School would like to thank the community for their donations and time. We would also like to thank local companies for their contribution of sponsorships and prizes to what was a successful fundraising effort.

As of 5 July, we have raised $44,164.70!

We have prayed as classes and sacrificed some of our comfort to raise money. Proverbs 14:31 says, “… whoever is kind to the needy honours God”. Well done and thank you to every single person involved in this incredible effort. We are so blessed to be able to give to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Principal's Couch Video - Mr Cahill and Mr Sharplin

Each week Mr Budler interviews various students or staff in the 'Principal's Couch' videos. These are played to Senior and Middle School students. Below is one of these videos where Mr Budler interviews Mr Cahill and Mr Sharplin asking about their World Vision fundraising efforts.
