Primary School Art

Art is a powerful medium for learning which supports our core values and offers the opportunity to integrate current learning, develop art skills and express abstract ideas.

In Year 0-1 students have been learning about community and working together. Their art work and learning included a closer look at bees: how they work together to create a healthy hive and how each one has a part to play in their community.

Year 2 students have been learning about occupations such as firefighters, and their art gave them the opportunity to learn about warm colours and silhouettes.

In Year 4, the Maori Proverb ‘Ahakoa, he iti, he pounamu (Although it is small, it is precious)’, led the students to explore how important every small part is as they worked together to produce a collaborative piece of art.

Integration of Geometry and Art has seen the Year 5 and 6 students create works that reflect the cubist art movement, and Matariki.
