2020 has presented a series of challenges for the Visual Art students. Watching the world battle with COVID-19, whilst in isolation, inspired our students to create pieces which show resilience, hope and the beauty in God’s creation.

I had to be extra inventive in my approach to teaching skills such as lino printing from home, and the students coped remarkably well. Here you can see examples of the Level One printed portraits showing travellers on their journey.

Some students definitely missed the relational interaction that they usually have in the Art room, but a few students enjoyed the solitude and extended time to draw and paint at home. All benefited from our online lessons where we came together to hold up our work to the camera, talk to each other about our experience of the creative process, and share ideas and encouragement.

At the end of 2020, each student will have a visual record of this extraordinary year. Their body of work will be filled with memories that show extra creativity and triumph over adversity.
