From the Tumuaki's Table - Term 1, Week 11

Mike Molloy —

We got there! It has been a long 11-week term with the rollercoaster of COVID cases, traffic light rule changes and an uncertain future. Now it is time to stop, rest and reset your core. The children have coped extremely well over the term. They have managed to keep on smiling and enjoy their learning. The senior school camps were able to go ahead and were a huge success.

Last year I was fortunate to apply and be awarded a TeachNZ Sabbatical. This means I will be stepping away from school for term 3 to undergo refreshment leave and will be studying how Knights Stream can be more culturally responsive to our community. I will be travelling to other main centres to learn more about the successes and amazing initiatives other schools have done to support these diverse communities. In my absence, Whaea Anna will be Acting Principal with Whaea Leigh as acting Deputy Principal. What an exciting opportunity for all of us!

In the Tari (office) we have a world map that will soon show the amazing diversity that we celebrate here at Knights Stream School. We hope that next term we can invite parents in to place a star on where all our school whānau (families) come from across the world.

A few highlights from this term have been the planning of the new building "Ōwaka', the walk and wheels week fundraiser and being interviewed by Raupō as part of their 'Who helps Us' unit. I have really missed spending time in the learning spaces and I hope that as time goes on things will start returning to a more normal... if that is even such a thing! The sustainability team are busy planning the Garden to Table programme and the exciting new planting project that will be happening in term 3.

Once again thank you for your continued support and best wishes for a restful and healthy term break.
