From the Tumuaki's Table - Term 1, Week 2, 2023
It has been a very positive start to the school year for all learners. I love the way our teachers make strong connections with their children in such a short time. Our children have been courageous as they start with new teachers, spaces and make new friends. Thanks to all the older students for caring and looking after all the new children in their classes. I am very impressed with the children who have just started school and who have been so brave.
As a parent/caregiver, there are a few key things you need to have ready to make the most of the year. Have you:
- downloaded the HERO APP on your phone
- updated any personal emails with the Tari (Office)
- checked your emails for school messages
- booked a whānau hui time for week 3 to meet your teacher/s (Year 2-8)
- thought about joining the Friends of the School group
- organised your child's stationery
- named all items of their clothing (including hats and socks!)
- read and signed the BYOD agreement (Years 4-8)
This year we have launched House Groups. Why did we do this?
- Families groups to be together for group days - e.g. Matariki breakfast
- Tuakana Teina - leadership opportunities for our senior students
- Caring - supporting others
- Fun!
- Inclusive grouping opportunities
- Helps take pressure off play spaces e.g. bike track, wheels court
- Staff connecting with others in the kura across the school
- Healthy and fun competitions (e.g. Cross Country, Spellathon etc)
We are planning House Walks in week 8 of the term - Friday 31 March. Please put this date aside as we would love as many parents to join us for the day! More information will come home about this closer to the time.
Let's have a great year together!
