What are pasture raised eggs?

They are what you imagine in your minds eye, hens out in the pasture living their best life laying happy and nutritious eggs. The hens are moved multiple times a week onto fresh pasture so they can forage for bugs and feast on the pasture. We provide the hens with a feed which is especially prepared for pasture raised hens by a local grower in Ashburton, who grows all his own cereals and mills the feed himself.

There are no GMOs, soy or yolk colourants used in the feed. We also use a special blend of organic apple cider vinegar and garlic in their water to aid digestion and keep the hens’ gut healthy.

Being out in the sunshine, eating fresh pasture and foraging for fresh worms and bugs sure does have its benefits. Pasture raised eggs have been found to be more nutritious than eggs from conventional farming systems. Compared to caged eggs, pasture raised eggs are found to have:

- Twice as much vitamin E

- Twice as much long-chain Omega-3 fats

- Higher Vitamin A

It goes to show you are what you eat, so why not try some delicious pasture raised eggs today!
