Shredding the Bike Track

Mike Molloy —

Here is all you need to know about the bike tracks...

Bike tracks - why have them?

We developed a skills-based progression dirt bike track that is available for the children and the community. This allows children to develop their skills, confidence, to keep fit and to take healthy risks. This, in turn, encourages families to be active in the community.

Another aim is that this then provides the opportunity for children to head to the Halswell Quarry tracks and onto more technical riding tracks.

As a new school, we have limited trees and other play equipment and want to have opportunities for the children to play outside and take healthy risks.

We have 16 school bikes (varying sizes) and helmets for children to borrow.

Bike Track Rules

The Knights Stream School Board of Trustees accepts no responsibility for any incidents, accidents or damage to personal bikes outside of school operating hours.

All users of the track must abide by the rules listed below. By using the KSS bike track you agree to the following rules:

Rules:

All tracks

  • All riders must wear helmets, and closed-toe footwear (knee pads, gloves and elbow pads are recommended for the jump tracks).

  • All tracks are one way only.

  • All riders must be able to stand on the pedals and cover breaks with fingers while riding (fingers ready).

  • Riders must allow a 5-second gap between riders on the pump track.

  • One rider on the intermediate and large jump track at a time.

  • Tracks are for riding only - no walking or playing on the tracks.

  • If anyone sees anything dangerous on the track it must be reported to staff immediately. All riding must cease.

  • Please respect the neighbours’ privacy by not staying on the starting mound for too long.

  • If the track closed sign is out, please stay off the track.

  • All bikes need to be in perfect working order. Bikes should not have other equipment in them ( stacks, baskets, trick bars etc).

Intermediate and Large Jump Tracks

  • Riders must be experienced to ride the intermediate jump tracks (can ride pump track pedalling and can carry speed). This will be assessed by KSS staff member or representation (John Jones) and an ‘Intermediate Licence’ and/or ‘Large Licence’ gained.

  • Riders must have written parental permission provided to KSS BEFORE riding the intermediate and large jump tracks, specifying the use of the larger tracks.

  • All riders under the age of 13 must not ride the two jump tracks outside of school hours without the direct supervision of a responsible adult.
