From the Principal's Desk - Term One, Week 4

Mike Molloy —

Music at Knights Stream is super fun! Luka having a go at 'We Will Rock You' freestyle.

Yet another full week has rolled by at Knights Stream School | Mingimingi Hautoa and it is all go. I am lucky enough to visit all classes daily and share in the learning that is happening across the school. This week I saw Pūrekireki in the music room having a blast on all the musical equipment. Raupō have been busy with statistics and I even saw a dinosaur being created during art time!

Flash cards are proving a fun way to memorise maths facts for learners in Hawai.  Construction is a favourite among the Year 3 and 4 tamariki as they explore the use of new materials. Paretai have been busy developing the leadership opportunities throughout the school. They love their iPads and are out and about making videos about their experiences of school to share with each other.

We thank all of the parents of year 2-8 children for making the time to meet their teachers last week. This was a valuable time for them to gather more knowledge of your children, develop our relationships and build upon our high expectations for all learners. Learning is a partnership between school and home as we work together for the best opportunities for all children. The year one teachers will hold their sessions later in the term.

As the cold weather starts to creep in, warmer clothing is needed. The school uniform list includes black track pants, black undergarments and a range of school tops to wear. We thank the Cashmere Rotary Club for donating 100 vest to keep our children safe travelling to and from school.

The bike track will soon be compacted, the storage sheds are being planned and quotes for bikes are coming in. It will still take some time to complete this big project! We thank Allwood trees who are kindly donating some deciduous shade trees and labour to plant 1000 plants around the track and boundary fence.

This week we held our very first swimming sports for Year 3-8 tamariki. This was very successful with every child participating and demonstrating the school values. Well done Matua Craig for all the organisation. It was great seeing so many parents coming along to encourage the children too.

  • NZEI Paid Union Meetings

The teachers will be involved in a paid union meeting on Tuesday 19 March @ 2pm. The school will remain open but we do encourage parents and whānau to pick up children from 1.45pm onwards. Whaea Leigh and Matua Craig will supervise those who can not be picked up early.

  • Tomorrow's Schools Meeting

Amy Adams will be holding a meeting with Hon Nikki Kaye, National's spokesperson for Education to discuss the Tomorrow's School proposals. You are welcome to attend this:

When: Monday 18 March @ 7pm

Where:  Rolleston College

  • School Pepeha Walk

We welcome all whānau to join us this Friday (8 March) for the school walk. We do need a few parents to join some groups for orienteering. We depart school just after 9am and return by 2.30pm.  If you are available to help or would like to join us please email Matua George: george.lecciones@knightsstream.school.nz

It has been lovely welcoming children and whānau into the school each day.  We expect all children to practise saying good morning to others each day. Please remember you are welcome to stay after school and hang out in the playground for as long as you like - this is your school!

Enjoy your weekend.
