From the Tumuaki's Table - Term 4, Week 6

Mike Molloy —

On Tuesday this week the Knights Stream School | Mingimingi Hautoa Kapahaka Group performed for the school. They performed with such enthusiasm and courage that it literally brought a tear to my eye. I was so proud of the group and its 2 leaders Mackenzie and Logan. This was the first time the whole school has been together since the start of COVID. Back then we were less than 200 and now we are 400. Congratulations to Matua Steve our tutor for bringing out so much mana in our tamariki. They are performing this weekend at the Tūhono Festival in the Town Hall.

Ōwaka (Stage 2) is on track. The roof and glazing start at the end of the week. The new Gaga Dodgeball Pit has been a very popular place at playtime. The new outdoor gardens are looking great too! The Board is in funding mode for the new Adventure Playground. We hope to raise a significant amount of money to help cover the estimated $310,000 cost of design and construction.

The Kaiako (teachers) are busily completing the end-of-year assessments and are writing report comments that demonstrate the progress of the last 6 months. It is great to see so many children achieving more milestones this year. On the 6th December, the children will be visiting their 2023 Whānau Teacher.

In Term 2 the Y5-8 team will move into the new spaces, the Year 3 and 4 team will move to Ōtūmatua and the Year 2's will move to Ōpouira to allow for plenty of space as we continue to grow! Right now we are planning the purchase of more furniture and equipment to accommodate this!

The Friends of School held a very successful DISCO on Friday last week. The children had a blast spending their Disco Dollars! We welcome new leadership to the FoS team as Hayley transitions Angela and Dave into the role. I know they are keen on bringing in more helpers. It is always great to get involved in the school... if you are keen you can find more information on their Facebook group.

Only 3 weeks to go... enjoy the sunshine!
