From the Tumuaki's Table - Term 3, Week 4

Mike Molloy —

The daffodils are up, the sun is staying around for longer and SPRING is almost here!

During the COVID-19 lockdown period under level 3, the onsite learners planted bulbs around the garden frontage. These are now flowering and are a great reminder that life goes on and we must be grateful for what we have. I am sure the kaimahi and kids that planted these are pleased to see them.

Swimming is once again proving a vital part of our programme with all learners making amazing progress. We thank the Halswell Amateur Swimming Club for their donation to help finance the lessons. We also thank the Board of Trustees for funding the rest of the costs to make this programme FREE for 2020. You will notice the wheels fall off at home with some tired children!

Post COVID we have noticed a spike in some negative social behaviour at break times. As a school, we are committed to being proactive and responsive to the social and emotional needs of our children. A number of programmes and strategies are being deployed to support this area of learning.

Thanks to all those that were able to make the recent goal-setting interviews. These were well received by both parents and teachers and were a fantastic opportunity to ask questions and share the learning progress this year.

This week we farewell three of the four staff taking parental leave. We wish Whaea Delaram, Whaea Tracy and Whaea Jessie all the best for the safe arrival of their babies.  We hope the little ones stick to the 3 babies in 3 days schedule! Whaea Tracy used her CREATIVITY to make four very cute baby KSS tops (see photo attached) as a gift for each of them.

Thanks for those that have completed the BoT SCOT survey. The FoS Quiz night is fast approaching and is shaping up to be a memorable evening of entertainment. With silent auctions like 'Principal for the Day' who can't resist bidding even if you can not make it!
